) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Peterbilt
579 and 2023 Kenworth
T680 vehicles. Incorrect software in the battery electric heavy duty electronic stability control program may underestimate the mass of the vehicle. As such, these vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 136, “Electronic Stability Control Systems on Heavy Vehicles.”
Remedy
Dealers will update the software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 17, 2023. Owners may contact PACCAR

Safety Recall –
The battery-electric heavy duty electronic stability control program underestimates the mass of the vehicle. An incorrect estimate of vehicle mass can negatively impact the performance of the stability control system and may increase the risk of a crash. Updated software will be loaded by Meritor
representatives to correct the miscalculation.

Motors Company has determined that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain Model year 2022-2023 579 Battery-Electric vehicle chassis. The battery-electric heavy duty electronic stability control program in the current software underestimates the mass of the Safety Recall 23KWA / 23PBA: T680 / 579 Battery-Electric Vehicle Stability Control Mass Calculation 23KWA (23PBA)
/ 23V007 / 2023-007 vehicle. An incorrect estimate of vehicle mass can negatively impact the performance of the stability control system and may increase the risk of a crash. NOTE When software is updated, vehicles may experience incorrect operation of certain components. These issues will be addressed in a future software update. Refer to Bulletin 46- 003 for more information. 1. Power gauge will display approximate axle speed instead of actual power usage.
2. Air conditioner compressor will not operate below 10mph (16kph) or over 40mph (65kph). HVAC Blower and heater will operate normally.

Motors Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model year 2022 and 2023 579 Battery-Electric vehicles manufactured from 01/10/2022 through 12/20/2022.
The battery-electric heavy duty electronic stability control program in software versions R4 and below underestimates the mass of the vehicle. An incorrect estimate of vehicle mass can adversely impact the performance of the stability control system which may increase the risk of a crash.
Peterbilt
has initiated a recall to remedy the defect in cooperation with Meritor
. The repair will be coordinated and performed by Meritor
free of charge. However, Peterbilt
is required to notify customers of the existence of the identified safety defect. If needed, please contact your

Upgrading to R5 software may cause the following incorrect operation of certain components:
• Power gauge will display axle speed instead of actual power usage.
• Air conditioner compressor will not operate below 10 mph or over 40 mph. HVAC Blower and heater will operate normally.
• Low air and low coolant audible alarms (buzzers) will not operate below 10mph (16kph). Low air and low coolant visual warnings will operate normally.
These programming faults will be addressed with a future software upgrade. Owners will be contacted about the software upgrade separately when the software is available.
The problem is… 579 Battery-Electric Vehicle mass estimation programming is incorrect.
