Summary
Xos, Inc. (Xos) is recalling certain 2021-2022 SV05 Stepvan vehicles. The tire and loading information label has an incorrect front gross axle weight rating, which could lead to an unintentional overloading of the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard numbers 120, “Wheels and Rims-Other than Passenger Car,” and 49 CFR Part 567, “Certification.”
Remedy
Xos will mail replacement labels to owners, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 6, 2023. Owners may contact Xos customer service at 1-818-316-1890. Xos’s number for this recall is REC 001-23.

Chronology :
On or around January 15, 2023, an Xos engineer identified a discrepancy between the front gross axle weight rating shown on the SV05 Part 567 Compliance Label and the rating of the front tires. The front gross axle weight rating on the SV05 Part 567 Compliance Label was listed as 10,000 lbs. The weight rating for the front tires is 4,940 lbs. each. The issue was reported to Xos’s engineering team and an evaluation of the issue was commenced.
On February 17, 2023, the topic was presented to Xos’s Product Safety Committee. Based upon the information presented, the Product Safety Committee decided to initiate a recall to address this condition.
To date, there have been no warranty claims and no reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Dear Valued Xos SV05 Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Xos, Inc. has decided that certain Model Year 2021-2022 Xos SV05 Stepvan vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 120 “Tire Selection and Rims for Motor Vehicles Other Than Passenger Cars.” Our records indicate that your vehicle is included in the affected population of vehicles. We apologize for this situation and want to assure you that, with your assistance, we will correct this condition. Our commitment is to provide you with the highest level of service and support.
What is the issue?
The gross axle weight rating of the front axle was misidentified on the certification labels due to an oversight in the engineering process.
What is the risk?
Overloading over time could cause excessive tire wear and could lead to tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
What will Xos do?
Xos has included replacement certification labels listing the correct gross axle weight rating, free of charge. Remedy labels list the correct front gross axle weight rating.

The tire and loading information label on certain 2021-2022 SV05 Stepvan vehicles has an incorrect front gross axleweight rating. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standardnumbers 120, “Wheels and Rims-Other than Passenger Car,” and 49 CFR Part 567, “Certification.”
Xos will mail replacement labels to owners and dealers, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to bemailed to customers the week of March 21, 2023.

Xos has determined that in certain Xos Stepvans the front gross axle weight rating may exceed the sum of the maximum load ratings of the front tires.
