FMVSS 1 : 213 – Child restraint systems FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : Because the IC351 and similar models can fail S5.1.1(a) of FMVSS No. 213, they may not maintain secure installation in the vehicle during a crash increasing the risk of injury to the child restraint occupant. Description of the Cause : Dorel believes that the self-retracting lower anchor mechanism in the base of the recalled models can experience resistance during normal activation causing deformation of the feature that is intended to move the retractor mechanism into the fully locked position. Once the feature is deformed, the lower anchors in the base may not keep the child restraint securely installed to the vehicle during a crash. Description of the Cause : Dorel believes that the self-retracting lower anchor mechanism in the base of the recalled models can experience resistance during normal activation causing deformation of the feature that is intended to move the retractor mechanism into the fully locked position. Once the feature is deformed, the lower anchors in the base may not keep the child restraint securely installed to the vehicle during a crash.
