Summary
Capacity of Texas
is recalling certain 2020-2023 TJ5000 vehicles. The front-drive steer axle fasteners may loosen, resulting in a complete separation of the axle assembly joints.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and replace the pro-torque nut keeper on the steer axle assembly, free of charge. The recall began May 10, 2023. Owners may contact Capacity of Texas
customer service at 1-800-323-0135.
Notes
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
On 12/12/2022, Meritor
received notice that a pro-torque spindle nut keeper was observed to be not installed correctly on the pro-torque nut wheel-end. After further research, they found 52 axles that were sold to Capacity were affected and are in the field. 51 were built and shipped in 2020. The last one was built in 2022. Meritor
has provided a list of suspect serial numbers and I have added the Capacity truck numbers that coincide with those serial numbers. All the units listed are FedEx Freight Sabre units.
Meritor
will provide work instructions as well as cover the cost of these repairs.
Pursuant to NHTSA regulations and as this is a potential safety issue; please use all means available to you in identifying where these trucks are operating and notifying the owners/operators of this situation and to determine if the truck they have has been affected.
