Production Dates : JAN 13, 2022 – MAR 03, 2022 VIN Range 1 : Begin : 1FDXE4FN8NDC40743 End : 1FDXE4FN3NDC40780 ✔ Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : Ford Motor Company reported to Jayco Inc. that they are recalling certain 2022 E-450 vehicles. Extended peeling of the post-paint along the fuel tank weld seam may, over time, lead to corrosion in the areas of exposed base metal, and may ultimately progress to a fuel vapor leak or liquid fuel leak. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire. Description of the Cause : Due to pre- and post-paint production deviations at the supplier, fuel tanks may have inadequate paint adhesion. Identification of Any Warning that can Occur : A Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate, or a fuel odor or liquid fuel may be observed. Ford is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition. February 20, 2023 Jayco’s Warranty Incident Review Committee (WIRC) reviewed the incident and elevated it to Corrective Preventive Action Committee (CPAC). On March 1, 2023 (CPAC) decided to elevate the incident to the Safety Steering Committee (SSC) once the remedy was available and the Ford recall became active. In April Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23V-323 Page 3 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 2023, Ford notified Jayco that remedy parts are available. On April 27, 2023 SSC voted to proceed with a pass through chassis recall. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have their fuel tank inspected and replaced if necessary. There will be no charge for this service. Ford provided the general reimbursement plan for the cost of remedies paid for by vehicle owners prior to notification of a safety recall in May 2021. The ending date for reimbursement eligibility is estimated to be February 06, 2023. Ford Motor Company will be reporting the quarterly completion rates to NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The replaced fuel tanks will be produced with pre- and post-paint processes that meet specifications. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : Fuel tanks with proper paint adhesion were introduced in production at Ohio Assembly plant on March 01, 2022, and Detroit Chassis plant on March 16, 2022.
