Summary
Airstream
, Inc (Airstream
) is recalling certain 2023 Atlas motorhomes. The 16-gauge branch wires may be under protected by a 20-amp fuse, which could allow the wiring to overheat in the event of a short circuit.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the 20-amp fuse with a 5-amp fuse, and install a new circuit, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 4, 2023. Owners may contact Airstream
customer service at 1-877-596-6505 or 1-937-596-6111 ext. 7401 or 7411.

Chronology :
4/28/23 – During an audit of the Atlas electrical system it was discovered that the 16awg wires coming off he main 12awg wire harness truck line were not separately fused.
5/4/23 – The Airstream
Safety Committee convened and agreed to submit a 573. To date there have no reported occurrences in the field.
5/8/23 – Added the “Involved Component” information to the 573.

The 16awg branch wires are not individually fused, and because of this are under protected in the event of a short circuit. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : In the event of a short circuit the 16awg wires would be under protected and heat-up before the fuse could trip which may increase the risk of fire”. This could result in the increased risk of personal injury, and property damage. Description of the Cause : The 16awg wire is under protected and in the event of a short circuit would heat-up before the 20amp fuse could be tripped.
