Power Cables May Not Be Tightened Properly
A relay that fails in the closed position will continue to power the cabin heater, overheating the relay and increasing the risk of a fire.

Mack Trucks
, Inc. (Mack
) is recalling certain 2019-2023 LR battery electric trucks. The power cables that connect to the windscreen heater relay may have a loose connection and cause the relay to fail.
Remedy
Dealers will tighten the power cable to relay connection, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 4, 2023. Owners may contact Mack
’s customer service at 1-800-866-1177. Mack

Description
Insufficient torque on the power cables to relays may result in a relay failure which could continue to power the cabin heater. Relay failure and overheating could result in a vehicle fire.
There have been no warranty claims, field reports, accidents or injuries reported with this issue.
Vehicles will be recalled and the power cables to relays will be properly torqued.

Dealer Responsibilities
The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act require dealers to ensure that all new and used vehicles are free of safety defects and comply with all relevant safety standards at the time of delivery to the consumer.
Dealers should make their personnel aware of the safety recall. In the event that a dealer has a vehicle included in the safety recall in their inventory to be sold, the condition must be corrected before releasing it to a customer.
Notification Release Schedule
- Vehicle list will be posted on the Trucks Dealer Portal June 9, 2023.
- Owner notification letters will be released on or before August 4, 2023.
- Repair Instruction will be released once they are available.

March 2, 2023 Reliability and Quality report to Product Safety Working Group that they have had two (2) cabin coolant heater relay failures which indicated the heater continued to stay powered and damaged the heater.
March 8, 2023 Product Safety Working Group opens an investigation and requests failed components from the field.
March 22, 2023 Engineering provides initial failure analysis results.
March 27, 2023 Product Safety Working Group reviews product safety investigation results and recommends supplier of the relay provide their input and asks for additional review of incidents and vehicle data.
May 15, 2023 Product Safety Working Group meets and recommends that this be brought to the Product Safety Committee as a potential product safety defect.
May 30, 2023 The Product Safety Committee meets and decides that a product safety defect exists.
June 4, 2023 573 Report filed with NHTSA
