PACCAR

) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Peterbilt
579 vehicles equipped with MX-13 engines and 160-amp alternators. A fastener on the front spring bracket may have been installed with the head on the outside of the frame rail, which can chafe and damage the alternator positive cable.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the frame fastener and secure the alternator cable, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 11, 2023. Owners may contact Peterbilt

Chronology :
5/11/23 – Product Safety and Compliance received a Field Service report that a customer truck had an underhood fire due to the positive alternator cable rubbing a front of frame fastener. An investigation was initiated.
5/16/23 – Product Safety and Compliance requested a warranty claim search and all Field Service reports related to under hood fires.
5/25/23 – Seven warranty claims and six related under hood fires were reported.
6/6/2023 – The Peterbilt
Safety Committee met and determined that a defect related to motor vehicle safety does exist.
As of 6/6/2023, Paccar
received 7 warranty claims and 6 report(s) about trucks in the field that may be related between 9/27/2022 and 6/6/2023. No reports of deaths or injuries have been received.

Owners who incurred costs to obtain a remedy for the problem addressed in the recall in advance of receiving notification may seek reimbursement through the process outlined in the general reimbursement plan on file.
