Grand Design RV
, LLC (Grand Design) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Momentum 23G and 25G travel trailers. The installed safety chains are underrated for the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR).
Remedy
Dealers will replace the safety chains, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 6, 2023. Owners may contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-9679. Grand Design’s number for this recall is 910040.

Chronology :
On or around August 7, 2023, GDRV discovered a potentially inadequate safety chain size for GVWR during an online compliance audit. An investigation was opened to understand scope and consequence of the potential issue. During the investigation it was confirmed that the safety chains were incorrect and that there were additional units impacted. The product safety committee reviewed the findings of the investigation and decided to file a notice of defect with NHTSA.
Grand Design is not aware of any customer complaints, accidents, injuries, or deaths associated with this issue.

Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : Grand Design, will release a Recall Notice to all Grand Design dealers and registered owners. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to the nearest Grand Design dealer to have their safety chains replaced. Owner’s that have paid to have this service performed will be reimbursed by Grand Design for any expenses incurred relating to the defect. Reimbursement will follow the plan on file with NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The replacement safety chains are rated for 16,700 pounds which is appropriate for the unit GVWR.
