Production Dates : MAY 26, 2009 – JUN 14, 2018 Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : Mando has not determined the presence of a defect in the HECU/ABS modules. While the investigation is continuing to be conducted by and between Mando, Hyundai and Kia, two vehicle manufacturers, Hyundai and Kia, reported that certain vehicles equipped with ABS modules from Mando could leak brake fluid internally inside the HECU/ABS modules and that it could cause an electrical short over time. Although Mando has not identified a defect, Mando is providing this report in accordance with Part 573.3(f) in order to identify vehicle manufacturers that received the HECU/ABS modules. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : According to the Hyundai and Kia’s 573 Defect Draft Reports (23V-651 and Part 573 Safety Recall Report 23E-073 Page 2 The information contained in this report was submitted pursuant to 49 CFR §573 Description of the Safety Risk : 23V-652), brake fluid may leak internally inside the HECU/ABS modules, which over time, could result in an electrical short, and an electrical short in the HECU/ABS modules increases the risk of an engine compartment fire. Description of the Cause : Mando’s investigation is continuing and Mando has not determined the presence of a defect in the HECU/ABS modules.
