The number of the vehicles equipped with these engines which are being recalled is 17, Production Dates : AUG 25, 2023 – SEP 13, 2023 VIN Range 1 : Begin : 1M2GR7GC0RM042201 End : 1M2TE7GC9RM001835 ✔ Not sequential Description of Defect : Description of the Defect : The subject engines may have been built with incorrect length flanged stud(s) attaching the rear lifting bracket to the cylinder head. FMVSS 1 : NR FMVSS 2 : NR Description of the Safety Risk : As described in Cummins Recall 23E080, the rear lifting bracket may detach from the cylinder head while the engine is being lifted, possibly causing the engine to swing or fall, potentially resulting in personal injury Description of the Cause : As detailed in Cummins Recall 23E080: The flanged studs that attach the rear lifting bracket to the cylinder head may have been 30mm long instead of 25mm long as required on the component drawing. This could allow the stud(s) to bottom out in the threaded hole(s) in the cylinder head, resulting in a lack of clamp load on the lifting bracket. Address : 500 Jackson Street Mailcode COB118 Columbus Indiana 47201 Country : United States Chronology : October 24, 2023 Volvo Product Safety Office is notified by Cummins Inc, that they are recalling certain Cummins L9N engines in conjunction with their recall 23E080. October 26, 2023 Product Safety Committee meets and determines that a product safety defect exists. October 31, 2023 573 Filing with NHTSA of the product safety defect. There have been no accidents or injuries related to this issue, there have been no warranty claims, field reports or customer complaints associated with this issue. Description of Remedy : Description of Remedy Program : The remedy is to inspect and replace, if required, the flanged stud in the rear lifting bracket arrangement with the correct length flanged stud, according to Cummins filing 23E-080. Mack will facilitate the Cummins Inc. recall execution. Cummins has requested that it be exempt from providing notification of a reimbursement plan. Reimbursement for the recall will be covered by Manufacturer’s Reimbursement Plan on file with NHTSA. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The remedy components are shorter (by 5mm) than the incorrect flanged stud used on the rear lifting brackets. Cummins will be prepared to notify owners no later that 12/15/2023.
