Loose Axle Spindle Nut May Cause Wheel Detachment
A loose axle spindle nut can allow the wheel to detach from the trailer, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
Great Dane Trailers (Great Dane) is recalling certain 2024 Champion trailers. The axle spindle nut may have been improperly tightened.
Remedy
Great Dane will inspect and tighten the axle spindle nut as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 10, 2024. Owners may contact Great Dane customer service at 1-877-369-3493.

Chronology :
11/30/2023 Customer reported a wheel separation occurred inside one of their yards. Great Dane reported the issue to the supplier who offered to inspect the unit.
12/4/2023 Supplier inspected the affected unit.
12/5/2023 Supplier shared their findings, and reported the root cause as a loose spindle nut installed by Great Dane. Determined that this issue constituted a safety issue.
12/5/2023-12/8/2023 Great Dane Warranty worked with Great Dane Manufacturing, and Great Dane Quality to determine suspect population, inspection/repair procedures, and review quality documentation from the manufacturing facility

Descriptive Information : Our customer reported a wheel end separation on one of their units. An investigation was performed that indicated that the spindle nut may not have been properly tightened on that wheel end. The population was determined from the start of production of trailers with that particular spindle nut through the date of inspection of units remaining at the manufacturing facility. Units built prior to the population were equipped with a different spindle nut, and units built after the population were reinspected at the manufacturing facility.

Description of Remedy Program : Great Dane LLC has produced a field inspection and repair procedure to
address this possible defect. We will inspect suspect units to confirm the proper installation of the spindle nut. In the event that any are found to not have the spindle nut torqued correctly we will repair the trailer. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The recalled component is being recalled because it may not have been properly torqued at our manufacturing facility. The remedy will allow us to document proper installation, and identify units that require repair.
