Descriptive Information : Certain model year 2021 – 2023 Winnebago Ekko motorhomes built with the suspect blind spot monitoring system are impacted.
The recall population was determined by identifying all Ekko’s built with an ASA Voyager Blind Spot Monitoring Kit and removing units already repaired in Service Campaign 74-05. Units after the affected date were built using the Ford BLIS® System. Production Dates : JAN 08, 2021 – JUN 08, 2023

Description of the Defect : The blind spot monitoring system installed in certain Winnebago Ekko motorhomes may fail without warning to the driver.

Description of the Safety Risk : The affected vehicles are equipped with mirrors that provide adequate rear visibility for the driver. In some cases, however, the driver may rely solely on the blind spot monitoring system prior to making a lane change. In that situation, a non-functioning blind spot monitoring system that fails without a warning to the driver could increase the risk of an accident.
Description of the Cause : This condition is caused by improperly routed wires and unsealed terminal

In June of 2023, Winnebago opened an investigation on the blind spot monitoring system based on customer complaints, including some NHTSA VOQs. As a result of that investigation, in October of 2023, Winnebago preliminarily determined that the issue does not present an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety and initiated a customer satisfaction campaign to address customer concerns with a non-functioning blind spot monitoring system. After continued discussions with NHTSA, ODI, and further assessment of the issue, on January 12, 2024, Winnebago decided to convert the previously released Service Campaign to a safety recall out of an abundance of caution and in order to improve awareness about the issue and remedy. Winnebago is not aware of any accidents or injuries resulting from a malfunctioned blind spot monitoring system. Winnebago first became aware of this issue on or about September 2021.
