Summary
Braun Ambulances (Braun) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Chief XL Type I, Chief XL Type III, Express Plus Type I, Express Type III, and Liberty Type I vehicles. The high contact nodes may cause the module mounted turn signals, backup alarm, brake lights, and rearview camera to turn on intermittently or fail to activate.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the nodes, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 16, 2024. Owners may contact Braun customer service at 419-232-7020. Braun’s number for this recall is 2024-2.

Chronology :
December 2023 – January 2023: Customer with multiple units reported 1) turn signals randomly turn on and flash (not the signals on chassis, only on module: front and rear intersection lights, rear turns, rear side marker, patient compartment. Active commands show no turn signal input. 2) backup alarm, rear load lights, back up lights come on when the truck is in drive or park/neutral. 3) backup camera does not show on the MCC screen when in reverse, and 4) parking brake active command flashes and at times shows parking brake alarm on the vista. No other reports have been submitted at this time. After investigation and review, the decision was made to replace the high content nodes in the field in February 2024. This will remedy the know field issues and proactively address in the vehicles with this revision node that have not experienced issues. 29 total vehicles are impacted.

Description of the Defect : Braun Industries has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Type I and Type III Chief XL, Express, Express Plus, and Liberty vehicles produced from November 2023 through January 2024.
Incompatibilities of a new high content node revision and Braun vehicle systems may lead to malfunction of module mounted turn signals, backup alarms, backup cameras, and additional brake lighting.

Description of Remedy Program : Braun will remedy the affected units free of charge by replacing the old
revision nodes with updated nodes. Replacement parts are estimated to be available March 1, 2024. Replacement is done by removing the affected nodes and installing the remedied nodes. Replacement High Content Node: Braun/Weldon Part Number: 28740/6060-2010-01 Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : New node started revision started in production on 2/1/24. All old revsion vehicles remaining on-site are quarantined until parts replacement is completed. Recall Schedule :
