Unsealed Cooktop May Cause Burner Flames to Invert

Summary
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2024 Coachmen Catalina BCAT154RDX and Forest River Aurora BART15RDX travel trailers. The panel that isolates the cooktop from the furnace was not properly sealed during manufacturing, which could result in an inverted cooktop flame.
Remedy
Dealers will seal the furnace from the cooktop, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 29, 2024. Owners may contact Forest River Customer Service at 1-574-825-4995. Forest River’s number for this recall is 203-1766.

Concern:
The cooktop is not isolated from the furnace return air, which potentially causes an inverted flame on the cooktop. This condition may lead to potentially causing the propane supply line to fail, which may lead to property damage or personal injury.
Turn off LP Gas at LPG Tank(s). Disconnect the vehicles’ battery Positive and Negative, disconnect any House battery(s) Positive and Negative, if equipped with a generator ensure it is off and lastly, ensure the vehicle is disconnected from shore power. Block any tires/wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Failure to do so may result in electrocution, fire or other personal injury, property damage and/or death.
STEP 1: REMOVE COOKTOP FROM THE KITCHEN COUNTER;
- KEEP FASTENERS TO USE TO RE-INSTALL THE COOKTOP;
- DO NOT DISCONNECT THE LPG LINE FROM THE COOKTOP;
STEP 2: USE SILICONE SEALANT TO SEAL THE PANEL AND THE CLETE REPRESENTED IN FIGURES 1 & 2;
STEP 3: RE-INSTALL COOPTOP;
STEP 4: TEST;
- TURN ON LPG;
- SET FURNACE TO HIGHEST SETTING;
- IGNITE COOKTOP AND LET BURN;
- THE FLAME SHOULD NOT INVERT WHEN THE FURNACE IS RUNNING.
APPLY SILICONE SEALANT WHERE THE RED LINE INDICATES.

Chronology :
On April 15, 2024, Forest Rivers Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”) was notified by the manufacturing plant that it had received a dealer complaint of the cooktop flame being inverted when the furnace was in use.
OCC opened a research item into the concern.
On April 19, 2024, Forest Rivers Corporate Recall Committee voted to recall.

Forest River has decided that a safety defect exists in certain 2024 Aurora and Catalina Travel Trailer Recreational Vehicles. Forest River is recalling the defective model(s) to ensure the safety of our future retail consumers and your dealership. Forest River is issuing a Stop Sale Notice effective immediately.
Please access your Home Page on Dealer Connect to verify if your Dealership has units in stock that are subject to this recall. Enter the Service Campaign number referenced above in the “Campaign Search” field and click on the “Campaign ID Number”. Next, select “MY VINS”. Not all Dealers have units in stock that are affected by this recall.

Description of Remedy Program : Forest River will provide all parts and labor free of charge to Consumers
and Dealers. An authorized Forest River dealer will need to perform the remedy. The panels edges inside the cabinet between the cooktop and furnace will be sealed.
