Summary
Nexxpro-Fabrica de Capacetes, S.A. (Nexxpro) is recalling certain NEXX X.G10 helmets, sizes M and S. The helmets may have been manufactured without an extra carbon layer and may not provide adequate protection in the event of a head impact during a crash. As such, these helmets fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.”
Remedy
Nexxpro will notify owners and replace the helmets, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 14, 2024. Owners may contact Nexxpro customer service at 1-800-461-1226.

Chronology :
Once reported the failure detected during a Safety Compliance Testing for FMVSS No. 218 Motorcycle Helmets (dated 23 April 2021), it were checked all the production records related with model X.G10, since year 2018 to 2022.
According to existing records, in the work instruction (applicable for molding fabrication process and small size shell) there is no information regarding the need of using carbon layer 200g/sqm on helmets to be produced for US market. For EU there is no such need.
The work instruction was in force since march 2018 till February 2019, leading us to conclude that all the small size shells produced in that time period were non-conforming with US regulation (FMVSS No. 218 Motorcycle Helmets).
It were produced shells on April 2018, November 2018, December 2018 and January 2019.
For the medium and large shells, the WI were accordingly. The work instruction for the small shells was updated in February 2019.

Descriptive Information : The recall population was determined taking into account that, for the small shell of model X.G10, we could produce three different sizes: M(medium), S (small) and XS (extra small). This leads us to a potential number of involved parts of 18 helmets (12 medium and 6 small size) The root cause for the failure was the non-use of an extra carbon layer of 200g/ sqm, used to avoid failures during the penetration test and double impact tests.
