Loss of Braking Ability

A loss of braking ability can increase the risk of a crash.

 

Summary

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Keystone Impact and Fuzion recreational trailers. The wiring for the electric brakes may contact the tires or wheels, causing damage to the wires, potentially reducing the trailer’s braking ability.

 

Remedy

Keystone will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the wiring for damage, making repairs as necessary, install wiring protection and re-route the wiring, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin November 19, 2018. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone’s number for this recall is 18-330.

Fuzion/Impact Brake Wiring

Keystone is conducting a voluntary RECALL notification campaign in accordance with the National Highway Transportation and Safety Act. It has been decided that the vehicles in the recall population have brake wiring that may touch the tires or wheels while the vehicle is in motion. Under certain conditions during travel, if the brake wires rub against the wheel or tire, there is an increased risk of property damage and poor vehicle handling.

Models Included:	2016 – 2019 Fuzion Fifth Wheels
	2016 – 2019 Impact Fifth Wheel and Travel Trailers

Parts Required:	108589 – Wire – Split Loom – 1/4″ – Poly Tube – Black (maximum 6 feet, can be purchased locally) – Wire connector – if needed, purchased locally
Tools Required:	– Wire strippers        – Wire crimpers

 

Note – Check serial number on Key Express to verify the campaign is open. Some vehicles were repaired before they left Keystone.

When performing warranty or recall service, please make certain that appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used.

The remedy is to inspect the brake wiring at each axle for damage. If the wiring is damaged, appropriate repairs should be made. If wire loom is not present, it should be installed and the wires should be attached to the axle to prevent further damage.

 

REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1
Locate the trailer on a level, flat, hard surface.
Chock the wheels.

Step 2
Gain access to the brake wiring on the off-door side and inspect for damage. See Figure 1.

 

Step 3
Add wire loom to the wires if not present and zip tie wiring to the top of the tie plate as shown in Figures 2 & 3.

 

Step 4
Proceed to warranty reimbursement.

Submit the claim on Key Express using Flat Rate Code # 7133042A In the Complaint section note:            Safety Advisory # 18-330 In the Cause section note:   Safety Advisory # 18-330

In the Correction section note:   Corrected wiring installation. Wiring is now installed in a safe manner.

The amount of time authorized for this repair is 0.5 hour.

Claims for the units which have been serviced must be submitted. Claims submitted will be used by Keystone to record recall service completions and provide dealer payments.
