Tire May Contact Rear Floor Support

Tire contact with the floor support while being towed can affect vehicle handling, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling certain 2019 Dutchmen Endurance and 2017-2019 Dutchmen Voltage Travel Trailers. The tires may contact with the rear floor support, affecting the trailer’s handling.

 

Remedy

Keystone has notified owners, and dealers will cut a notch in the floor support to provide sufficient clearance between the tire and the floor support, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2019. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone RV’s number for this recall is 19-338.

SAFETY ADVISORY # 19-338

Voltage Endurance Tire Clearance

 

Keystone is conducting a voluntary RECALL notification campaign in accordance with the National Highway Transportation and Safety Act. It has been decided that the vehicles in this recall population have been manufactured with tires that may come into contact with the rear floor support. The tires and floor support touching during travel may lead to an increased risk of property damage and poor vehicle handling.

Models Included:	2017-2019 Voltage 3561, 3655
	2019 Endurance 3506
Serial Number Ranges:	2017 Voltage	HZ990884 – HZ991255
	2018 Voltage	JZ990000 – JZ991051
	2019 Voltage	KZ990047 – KZ990440
	2019 Endurance	KZ996051- KZ996131
Parts Required:	Black Spray Paint – pick up locally
Tools Required:	Reciprocating saw
	Tape measure

 

Note – Check serial number on Key Express to verify the campaign is open. Some vehicles were repaired before they left Keystone.

When performing warranty or recall service, please make certain that appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used.

The remedy is to inspect the clearance above the tires and cut the floor supports so that there is a 3 inch minimum clearance if needed.

Step 1

Unload the cargo area and empty the fresh and holding tanks. The trailer must be unloaded in order to get an accurate measurement between the tire and the outrigger.

Step 2

Locate the trailer on a level, flat and hard surface. Chock the wheels.

Step 3

Using a reciprocating saw, cut a notch in the bottom side of the floor support located above the tires on the off door side of the unit. Cut the notch to allow 3” of clearance between the tire and the floor support, Figure 1.

 

Step 4

Touch up /spray paint the floor support as needed.

The amount of time authorized for repair is 1.0 hour per vehicle to cut notch for proper clearance.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Keystone RV Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model 2017-2019 Dutchmen Voltage and 2019 Endurance Fifth Wheels. As a result, Keystone RV is conducting a safety recall. We apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause you; however your safety and continued satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.

Reason for this recall	It has been decided that the vehicles in this recall population have been manufactured with tires that may come into contact with the rear floor support. The tires and floor support touching during travel may lead to an increased risk of property damage and poor vehicle handling.
What we will do	Keystone representatives have been in contact with the staff at your selling dealership regarding this situation. The remedy is to cut a notch in the affected floor support allowing a minimum of 3 inches of clearance between the tire and the floor support. The service and parts required for this corrective action will be provided at no charge to you.
What we need you to do	As soon as possible, please make an appointment to have your RV serviced by your dealership. The labor time to perform this correction is approximately 1 hour. Please ask your dealer if you wish to know how much additional time will be needed to schedule and process your RV for this repair.
If you have questions	Your dealer is best equipped to obtain parts and provide service to ensure your RV is corrected as promptly as possible. Please contact Keystone Customer service if your dealer is unable to assist or if you take your RV to your dealer on the agreed service date, and the dealer does not remedy the condition within a reasonable amount of time, or without charge to you. You may be eligible to receive reimbursement if you paid to have the defect resolved prior to receiving this correspondence. Keystone Customer Service is available toll-free at 1-866-425-4369.
