Wheel Spindles may Fail

Spindle failure can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Drake Automotive Group, LLC (Drake) is recalling certain Scott Drake left and right wheel spindles, part numbers C5ZZ-3106-L, C5ZZ-3105-R, C70Z-3106-L, C70Z-3105-R sold for use on 1965-1966 Ford Mustang V8s and 1967-1969 Ford Mustangs (all vehicles with drums). The spindle may fail resulting in the wheel and tire detaching from the vehicle’s steering system.

 

Remedy

Drake Automotive Group, LLC will notify owners and will replace all of the recalled units, free of charge. The recall began March 17, 2019. Owners may contact Drake automotive at 1-800-999-0289.

Safety Defect Recall Notice

 

To Scott Drake distributors and dealers:

Drake Automotive Group (DAG) has notified the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) of the National Highway Transportation Administration (NHTSA) (Report No. 19002646921826) of a safety defect in certain Scott Drake spindles (both left and right spindles).  Specifically, the spindle can fracture unexpectedly, resulting in a loss of vehicle steering control.  DAG has received one report of a spindle failure.  We need your cooperation in conducting a voluntary recall for these spindles.  We also ask that you confirm that you have received this notice, such as by an email confirmation.

The affected spindles are marked “A18F” (the lot number is marked on the backside of the spindle directly above the Scott Drake logo) and all spindles bearing this lot number are included in this recall.  The affected part numbers are:

• C5ZZ-3105-R
• C5ZZ-3106-L
• C70Z-3105-R
• C70Z-3106-L

 

Our records show that we have sold A18F spindles to you, and we need your cooperation and immediate attention to implement the recall process.  Specifically:

• You should immediately stop selling all Lot A18F spindles. Please contact DAG (Bob DeGutes @ 702/853-2096) to make arrangements to return these spindles.
• Please let us know immediately if any of your customers have had a Lot A18F spindle failure. Please provide this information to us, and we will contact you for more information.
• We need the name, address and contact information for all retail customers who have purchased Lot A18F spindle Please provide this to DAG as soon as possible.
• Please let us know if you have sold any Lot A18F spindles, but don’t have information which identifies any of these customers. Please let us know if these were e-sales or “over-the counter” sales, or if you sold the Lot A18F spindles through any other distribution method. Please provide this to DAG as soon as possible.

 

We will be notifying all purchasers of these spindles of this recall, and we will be making arrangements for the replacement of the recalled Lot A18F spindles at no cost to those consumers.  If you are contacted by anyone who purchased a Lot A18F spindle, please (1) obtain their contact information and let us know; and (2) ask the consumer to contact DAG directly (we will provide you with the contact information for retail customers shortly). 

We will be providing you with a copy of DAG’s recall notification communications shortly, which will include more information about the recall process, including how customers can identify the Lot A18F spindles, and the procedures they should follow to have their spindles replaced.
