Cargo Tray may Detach

If the cargo tray detaches, the tray may hit someone, increasing the risk of injury.

Summary

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2019 North Point Fifth Wheel recreational trailers equipped with cargo trays. The rivets that secure the stop bracket to the cargo tray may shear allowing the cargo tray to detach.

 

Remedy

Jayco has notified owners, and dealers will replace the hollow rivets with structural rivets, free of charge. The recall began March 15, 2019. Owners may contact Jayco’s customer service at 1-800-517-9137. Jayco’s number for this recall is 9901431.

	Contents: Hardware for either repair method 4 stainless .188×0.236-335 grip structural rivet for repair method 2A 4 #10-24 x7/16” bolts for repair method 2B 4 10-24 Zinc plated Nylon insert lock nuts for repair method 2B
Misc. Tools & Supplies:	Drill with 3/16″ drill bit Rivet gun 1/8″ Allen wrench 3/8″ ratcheting type wrench

 

Prior to either repair method:

Extend the tray and drill out the 4 rivets securing the yellow stop brackets. (2 on each side of tray) 

Replace one side at a time to prevent the tray from fully extending and disconnecting from the frame.

 

STRUCTURAL RIVET INSTALLATION Repair Method 2A

Structural Rivet Installation

Reinstall the stop bracket with the new structural rivets in parts kit.

Hold the stop bracket firmly to allow the rivet to pull tight and secure the stop.

Repeat on the opposite side of tray.

Inspect each stop to make sure it is secure.

 

NUT AND BOLT INSTALLATION –Repair 2B 

Nut and Bolt Installation 

Install the #10-24 Button head Allen bolt and nut using the 1/8″ Allen wrench and the 3/8″ wrench as shown.   TORQUE ON THE NUT SIDE TO 22 IN/LBS

Repeat on the opposite side of tray.

Inspect each stop to make sure it is secure.

Dear Valued Customer:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Jayco has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exits in certain Model Year 2019 North Point 387RDFS “LZ” fifth wheels.  

Reason for this recall	The rivets securing the stop bracket to the cargo tray may break, causing the stop bracket to separate from the tray frame.   Without the stop bracket in place, the tray could be pulled out to the point of separation from the frame and the tray could fall out increasing risk of injury.
Recall Remedy	An authorized Jayco Dealer will replace the rivets (4) in the stop bracket free of charge. The Recall Remedy will take approximately 30 minutes.
What we need you to do	Please contact a Jayco Authorized Dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment to have this remedy completed.

 

If you had this repair completed prior to receipt of this recall notice, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy of the problem associated with this recall.

If you take your recreational vehicle to your dealer on the agreed service date and the dealer does not remedy this condition on that date or within three (3) days, please contact our Customer Service Department at 800-283-8267.   If after contacting your dealer and Customer Service you are not able to have the safety defect remedied without charge and/or within a reasonable time, you may wish to submit a written complaint to the Administrator, national Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE., Washington, DC 20590; or call the toll-free Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-3274236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153): or go to https://www.safercar.gov.  Federal regulations require that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days.
