REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS
Caution: Repair one fuel tank at a time and one fuel tank support at a time. (there are 3 tank supports per fuel tank)
- Place a jack (or jacks) under the fuel tank for support.
- Remove the incorrect bolts from ONLY the selected tank support (one at each end) along with any washers.
- Remove the Tinnerman nuts from the cross members for ONLY the selected tank support.
- The tank may have to be raised with the jack (or jacks) to gain sufficient clearance so the Tinnerman nut can slide off the cross members.
- Use a screwdriver to aid in prying off the Tinnerman nuts ONLY for the selected tank support.
- FIG 1: Place new Tinnerman 3/8-16 with 3/8″ nut (0182038) from the kit on the cross member over the holes for the tank support bolts. Make sure the orientation is as shown in the photo.
- Use the new hex head serrated flange bolt (3/8-16 x 1″ GR 5 -0216363) from the kit.
- FIG 2: Place the bolt through the hole in the tank support and start by hand into the tinnerman nut. Only snug the bolt up, do not completely tighten it at this point.
- Repeat this step for the other end of the selected tank support.
- Move on to the next tank support and repeat the steps.
- After replacing all hardware, and snugging the 2 bolts up on the second tank support, move on to the third support.
- Repeat the same steps for the third tank support using new hardware, and snugging the 2 bolts up.
- Start at one corner of the fuel tank. Using a torque wrench and the 9/16″ socket, torque the tank support bolt at that location to 35 FT/LBS. Torque the rest of the fuel tank support bolts to the same 35 FT/LBS.
- FIG 3: After torqueing all tank support bolts, paint a yellow or white line on the edge of each bolt head, capturing the tank support. This step creates a visual indicator the bolt was properly torqued. It will also serve as a visual indicator to determine if a bolt has loosened in future inspection.
- Repeat this procedure for supports when a second fuel tank exists (Seismic Only).
