Rear Axles Inadequately Lubricated

Without lubricating oil, the bearings, hub and axle shafts may wear, resulting in the separation of a wheel end from the axle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2020 Kenworth T680, T800, T880, W900 and W990 trucks. The rear axles may not contain oil.

 

Remedy

Paccar will notify owners, and Kenworth dealers will inspect all of the rear axles for the presence of oil. If no oil is present, the wheels ends will be removed and the bearings, hub and axle shaft will be inspected for damage. If excessive wear or heat damage is evident, the components will be replaced, as necessary. Oil will then be added per the axle specifications. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began April 16, 2019. Owners may contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5888. Paccar’s number for this recall is 19KWA.

This notice applies to your vehicle:

 

Dear Kenworth Customer,

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic nd Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Kenorth Truck Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model year 2020 T680, T8CO, T880, W9DO and W990 vehicles manufactured from 02/04/2019 through 02/07/2019. Rear axles may not have been filled with oil during manufacturing. The absence of lubricating oil may result in accelerated bearing, hub and axle shaft wear. This wear may result in the separation of a wheel end (hub, wheel, tires) from the axle increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

The rear axle may not contain oil. Dealers will inspect the rear axle Oil level and repair as needed. Contact your Kenworth Dealer to schedule an appointment for repair

 

Kenworth has initiated a recall to remedy the defect. Please contact your Kenworth dealer. To find your Kenworth dealer, please visit Dealer Locator at WNW. Kenworth.com. This repair may take up to 1.0 hour for of labor to complete the inspection depending on vehicle configuration and dealer scheduling. Additional time will be required if a repair is needed. This repair will be performed at no charge to you.

If you had this repair performed before you received this letter, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy of the problem associated with this recall. Reciepts for parts and/or labor are required for consideration of reimbursement.
