Blower Motor Circuit May Overheat

If the wiring in the circuit overheats, it can increase the risk of fire.

Summary

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Precept, 2016-2019 Alante and 2019 Precept Prestige motorhomes built on a Ford F53 chassis. The blower motor electrical circuit may be missing the 25amp fuse, possibly resulting in overheating of the wiring.

 

Remedy

Jayco has notified owners, and dealers will install a 25amp fuse, free of charge. The recall began April 16, 2019. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137. Jayco’s number for this recall is 9903432.

  REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS   FIG 1:

• Open the engine compartment door on the front of the vehicle.
• Fuse box mounted to the firewall (arrow). FIG 2:
• Open the fuse box by disengaging the locking tab in the lower right front corner of the box (arrow).

  FIG 3:

• 40 Amp red fuse. (4th fuse from the right side).
• This is fuse position #23 as indicated on the fuse box lid (arrow and dashed box in Figure 4).
• Remove the 40A fuse in position #23.
• Save the 40A fuse as a spare as there are other 40A fuses in the box.

FIG 4:

• Fuse box lid showing fuse position #23 (arrow).

  FIG 5:

• Install the 25A Maxi fuse from the kit in place of the 40A fuse in position #23 in fuse box (arrow and dashed box).

FIG 6:

• Clean the area where the label will go using isopropyl alcohol and clean rag. Let dry 30 seconds.
• Place the label (from the kit) in the location shown (arrow).
• Do not place the label where it will cover up any of the other fuse location callouts.

  Close the fuse box and engine compartment door.   Validation of the repair: Make sure the blower motor and HVAC system operates properly after the fuse change.   Perform a visual inspection to make sure the wiring from the fuse panel (fuse position #23) to the blower motor looks acceptable with no signs of excessive heat (discoloration) or arcing at connectors.   If there are signs of possible damage contact Jayco Customer Service.

Dear Valued Customer:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Jayco has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety, exits in certain Model Year 2014-2019 Precept, 2016-2019 Alante, 2019 Precept Prestige, Vision and Emblem Class A Motorhomes.

Reason for this	There is inadequate overcurrent protection in the electrical circuit of the dash blower motor. In certain circumstances, the circuit wiring could over heat and cause permanent damage and increase the risk of a fire
Recall Remedy	Place a 25amp fuse in the Ford F53 Power Distribution Box (position 23), place a label noting “FUSE POSTION 23 MAX SIZE 25AMP” into the fuse panel cover and inspect circuit wiring for possbile damage pior to the recall repair.
What we need you to do	Please contact an authorized Dealer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment to have this remedy completed free of charge. The recall remedy will take approxiamtly thirty minutes.

 

If you had this repair completed prior to receipt of this recall notice, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of obtaining a pre-notification remedy of the problem associated with this recall.

If you take your recreational vehicle to your dealer on the agreed service date and the dealer does not remedy this condition on that date or within three (3) days, please contact our Customer Service Department at 800-517-9137. If after contacting your dealer and Customer Service you are not able to have the safety defect remedied without charge and/or within a reasonable time, you may wish to submit a written complaint to the Administrator, national Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE., Washington, DC 20590; or call the toll-free Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153): or go to https://www.safercar.gov. Federal regulations require that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days.
