Summary
PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2017-2020 Peterbilt 520 vehicles. Due to undersized wires, the connector between the cab power harness and the power distribution center (PDC) harness may overheat and melt, possibly resulting in an engine shutdown.
Remedy
PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will replace the main power wire to the PDC with a wire of the correct size, free of charge. The recall began August 6, 2019. Owners may contact PACCAR customer service at 1-918-259-3258. PACCAR’s number for this recall is 19PBB.

Introduction
Peterbilt Motors Company has determined that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain model year 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 Model 520 vehicles manufactured between October 17, 2016 and March 04, 2019 with left hand or right hand single steer Power Distribution Center (PDC) harnesses. The power wire to the PDC may be inadequate and unable to accommodate the current draw. This can cause the wire to overheat and potentially melt the cab power harness connector.
This could cause a loss of power to the cab and engine, which may result in the engine shutting down. A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.
Resolution
SAFETY RECALL
Service all affected chassis that enter your dealership, even if the customer has no issue with the chassis.
- Review the attached chassis list for your dealer code and schedule your customer(s) for service if their chassis is on the list.
- If you are not using Service Management to start repair orders, review DWWC or SIR for “Complete” next to the “19PBB” campaign code prior to performing this repair.
- Follow the procedures below to update the transmission software.
It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to sell or lease new vehicles covered by this recall until the defect or noncompliance has been corrected.
Warranty
There is no time or mileage limit for this recall.
Peterbilt will pay for parts at dealer net plus applicable mark up and labor:
- 50 hours labor to remove and replace the PDC Harness. File a long form claim and reference 19PBB in the “CCC” field
- File an additional claim for extraordinary circumstances.
