SUBJECT:
Inspection / Correction of Generator Exhaust Pipe Routing
KEYWORDS:
ISSUE DATE:
May 2019
The purpose of this Recall Service Bulletin is to inform all REV Recreation Group dealers about the need to inspect the generator exhaust pipe routing on certain model year 2019 Fleetwood Flair Model 32 S, and certain model year 2019 Holiday Rambler
Admiral Model 32 S, to ensure the exhaust pipe does not intrude into the departure angle of the coach. If the generator exhaust pipe is improperly routed, it will need to be replaced with a different exhaust pipe that exits at the rear of the vehicle.
The lists of affected motorhomes and required replacement parts appear at the end of this Bulletin.
CONDITION:
On motorhomes affected by this recall, the generator exhaust pipe may be routed in a manner that causes it to intrude into the departure angle of the coach. This improper mounting location could cause the generator exhaust pipe to become damaged or sheared off when the vehicle is driven on an incline, potentially allowing carbon monoxide from generator exhaust emissions to enter the vehicle, which could result in illness or death.
PROCEDURES:
Dealers are required to call REV Dealer Technical Support to obtain Prior Authorization before beginning any work and after the unit is in their bay. You will receive instructions and will be provided any necessary part ordering information.

INSPECTION
NOTE: This document only applies to the Flair/Admiral 32 S; no other models are affected.
1. Park the motorhome on dry, level pavement. Place the transmission into PARK and set the parking brake. Turn off the ignition and remove the ignition key. Maintain control of keys while work is performed.
2. Turn off the ignition and remove the ignition key. Maintain control of the ignition key until all repairs are completed. Attach a notice, “Do Not Use”, to the generator switch in order to prevent activation of the system.
3. Block wheels to prevent movement.
4. At the driver’s side, rear of the coach, locate the generator exhaust pipe and determine whether it exits on the side of the motorhome or out the rear, under the bumper. See Figures 1 & 2 for both examples of exhaust pipe routing.
a) If the generator exhaust pipe exits the motorhome at the rear of the coach under the bumper, take several clear photos (see Photo Requirements on Page 3) and submit a claim using code 6080-11, “Inspected/Not Defective”; no more work is required.
b) If the generator exhaust pipe exits on the side of the motorhome, take several clear photos (see Photo Requirements on Page 3) and then proceed to the Repair Procedure beginning at Step 5.
Photo Requirements:
For Non-Defective Units: Take photos that clearly show that the generator exhaust pipe has been properly routed. Submit the photos with an authorization request for Inspected/Not Defective. See Figure 1 (Page 2) for an exemplar photo.
For Defective Units: “Before” and “after” photos will be required.
- Before beginning repairs, take several photos clearly showing the generator exhaust misrouted out the side of the motorhome. See Figure 2 (Page 2) for an exemplar photo.
- After completing repairs, take several photos that clearly display the corrected routing of the generator exhaust out the rear of the coach, under the bumper. See Figure 1 (Page 2) for an exemplar photo. Submit both sets of photos with an authorization request for Inspected/Defective/Repaired.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE: Prior to ordering parts and/or starting work, verify the size of the generator that is installed in the unit you are repairing. It will either be a 4.0 kW or 5.5 kW Onan
generator; this will affect which part is needed for the repair.
- Referencing Figure 3:
a) Remove the hardware clamping the generator exhaust hanger to the generator exhaust pipe using a ½” open end wrench and ratchet with a ½” deep well socket.
b) Once loose from the exhaust pipe, remove the generator exhaust hanger by removing the ¼” HWH screw holding it to the sidewall with a 3/8” driver bit and drill. Set aside all of the generator exhaust hanger components and fasteners for later reinstallation.
c) Using a 3/8” driver bit and drill, remove both ¼” HWH screws holding the generator exhaust pipe guard to the sidewall. Discard the generator exhaust pipe guard and mounting screws as they will not be reinstalled.
- Referencing Figure 4, remove the generator exhaust pipe by loosening the U-bolt clamp securing the generator exhaust pipe to the generator with a ratchet and a ½” deep well socket. Set aside the U-bolt exhaust clamp for later reinstallation. Discard the generator exhaust pipe as it will not be reinstalled.
- Begin reinstallation by sliding the new generator exhaust pipe onto the generator exhaust port until it is fully seated to the bottom of the fl ared end or is tight against the bottom of the generator. Be sure it is oriented so that it exits the rear of the vehicle under the bumper; reference Figures 5 and 6. Clamp in place with the U-bolt exhaust clamp previously removed in Step 6; carefully position the U-bolt so that the nuts can be easily tightened with a ratchet and a ½” deep well socket.
- Reinstall the generator exhaust hanger onto the new generator exhaust pipe below the inner edge of the rear wall using a ½” open end wrench and a ratchet with a ½” deep well socket. Then, using a 3/8” driver bit and drill, install a ¼” HWH self-tapping screw thru the third hole (from the top) of generator exhaust pipe hanger into the inside of the rear wall, 1” up from the bottom of the wall, reference Figures 7 and 8 for clarifi cation. Install a second ¼” HWH selftapping screw into the top hole on the generator exhaust hanger, taking care to not over torque as the top screw is being secured into sheet steel only.
- Use silicone sealant to seal the screw holes in the sidewall where the defective components were removed, in order to prevent water intrusion.
PHOTO REQUIREMENT: When the repair has been completed, take photos to submit with the repair claim.
