Solenoid May Overheat

If the nearby components malfunction, the vehicle may unexpectedly stop, increasing the risk of crash. If the nearby components or wiring overheat, there is an increased risk of fire.

Summary

Corp. Micro Bird Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2018-2019 GT and T-Series school buses. The heavy duty solenoid may overheat nearby components, possibly causing them to malfunction.

 

Remedy

Micro Bird Corporation will notify owners, and provide field modification instructions and a replacement solenoid, free of charge. The recall began July 11, 2019. Owners may contact Micro Bird customer service at 1-819-477-2012. Micro Bird’s number for this recall is 19-081-SUS.

What is being recalled?

Micro Bird has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Ford and GM, models G5 and T-Series, year models 2018-2019, manufactured between November 1s 2018 and May 1st 2019 and equipped with a heavy duty solenoid.

 

Why is it being recalled?

Micro Bird has determined that, in certain vehicles, the heavy duty solenoid may, under certain conditions, reach a high steady state temperature that may thermally affect surrounding components. In certain configurations, the surrounding components may be close enough so that the heat could affect their functions or their integrity.

 

What is the safety issue?

Overheated wiring and electrical components could create the risk of a fire.  A loss of electrical power to safety equipment or lights could increase the risk of an unsafe situation or a crash.

 

What are we asking you to do?

1. Immediately locate the affected unit(s) in your fleet and contact Dave Caskenette by phone at 819 477-2012 ext. 364, by fax at 819 475 9633 or by email at [email protected] to order your repair kit(s).
2. For reimbursement, complete the reply sheet for each repaired vehicle and send it back to Micro Bird Corporation Inc. by fax at 819 475 9633 or by email at [email protected]. This will enable us to update our files.

 

What Micro Bird will do?

Micro Bird Corporation will provide a field modification instruction and replacement solenoid relay to mitigate this recall at no charge. It will be the responsibility of the bus owners to execute the mitigation.
