If the brake lights incorrectly illuminate, it can confuse other drivers, possibly increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary
Godwin Manufacturing Company, Inc. (Godwin) is recalling certain 2017 453USS10/26 dump body vehicles equipped with Whelen
brake lights. Depending on the specific wiring of the vehicle, these brake lights may illuminate when the brake pedal has not been pressed.
Remedy
Godwin has notified owners and Whelen has provided replacement brake lights, fee of charge. The recall began April 1, 2019. Owners may contact Godwin customer service at 1-800-892-0181 or Whelen customer service at 1-860-718-2331.

Timeline and Status of recall notification and action.
March 28, 2019 Godwin Manufacturing (Godwin) was notified of the outstanding recall for Whelen Lights (the vendor) installed on 10 Godwin customer dump truck bodies.
March 28, 2019 Godwin manufacturing identified that 10 units were installed on one sole customer’s dump truck bodies belonging to Annarundel County Maryland (the customer).
April 1, 2019 Godwin notified the customer. The customer was informed that the corrective action was to provide the customer with replacement lights provided by the vendor; the customer will install replacement lights; return defective lights to the vendor.
June 12, 2019 the customer confirmed all lights received and installed. The subject defective back up lights were returned to Whelen. The customer confirmed that the resolution completes the action and they consider the action closed.
June 13, 2019. Godwin informed NHTSA Recall Portal of the customer acceptance by uploading email correspondence.
July 9, 2019. Godwin received notification of Recall Letter Acknowledgement. In a follow up call to NHTSA, the representative instructed to file the September quarterly report with the timeline described above.
In closing, Godwin Manufacturing Co, Inc has conclude its actions to resolve this recall. All subject items have been replaced and removed from the field. No units provided by Whelen through Godwin Manufacturing Co, Inc remain in operation.

Dear sir, we are informed that the light sets used on 10 bodies provide to your company are involved in a supplier’s recall NHTSA 18E-063, Whelen Lights item number SHASSY
“For the recall population, the brake light may activate If there is a transient voltage on the brake input line (e.g., without further brake Input), but can be returned to normal operation when a brake input is applied and then removed.”
Replacement sets will be provided for you to replace and return the subject light sets.
