Summary
Braun Corporation (Braun) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Ford
Explorer BraunAbility MXV wheelchair accessible conversion vehicles. The switch-activated electric solenoid used to release the rear seat base latches from the floor-mounted strikers may unintentionally switch and stay on. In this case, the wires may overheat, causing the wiring insulation to melt, possibly resulting in an electrical short circuit.
Remedy
Braun has notified owners, and dealers will add timer components to the solenoid circuits, free of charge. The recall began August 7, 2019. Owners may contact Braun customer service at 1-800-488-0359.

This service bulletin details installation of the solenoid timer harness assembly.
Read instructions before beginning.
Passenger Side Seat Shown. Driver Side Seat is Mirror Image.
Labor Time: 1 Hour
1. Tilt seat forward. See Photo A.
2. Inspect seat solenoid wiring for damage, wear, or any abnormal condition. See Photos B and C.
If condition above is observed, contact Vehicle Aftersales at 1-877-272-8633, Option 3.
3. Locate existing hole shown in Photo D.
4. Drill a 9/32″ approximately 1/2″ from existing hole as shown in Photo E.
5. Secure solenoid timer harness assembly to underside of seat using hole drilled in Step 4 and screw included in kit. See Photos F and G.
6. Remove cable tie, shown in Photo H, securing solenoid wires to underside of seat.
7. Connect solenoid timer assembly in-line as shown in Photo I.
8. Secure harness to underside of seat using cable tie included in kit. Refer to Photo H.
9. Connect relay, included in kit, to solenoid timer assembly. See Photos J and K.
10. Test for proper operation.
11. Repeat procedure on front seat on opposite side of vehicle.

Subject: Recall & Stop Sale notice for Ford MXVs with Tilt n Go Seating
Dear BraunAbility Dealer,
BraunAbility is taking the necessary steps to initiate a voluntary recall on certain Ford Explorer MXV wheelchair accessible vehicles manufactured with Tilt n Go seating. The necessary steps are being taken to file the recall notice with NHTSA and we are proactively communicating this information to you. This notification is to inform you to take the necessary steps to place a stop sale on any affected Ford MXV wheelchair accessible vehicle(s) you may have in inventory.
A VIN list has been provided but we advise taking inventory of all unsold MXV vehicles in your possession and using the BraunAbility Recall LookUp located on BraunAbility Connect, to determine if a vehicle is affected by this recall. Any Ford MXV shipped after June 10, 2019 is not impacted and is reflected appropriately on the Recall LookUp. If any unit(s) identified in the VIN list we provided are no longer in your unsold inventory, no action is required by your dealership at this time. BraunAbility will notify the current owner of the vehicle using the NHTSA notification process.
Cause: The Tilt n Go seat switch is located in an area vulnerable to prolonged engagement by equipment located in the 2nd row and/or by items placed in the backseat pocket.
Concern: The Tilt n Go seat switch, when engaged for a prolonged period of time, may degrade the wiring leading to the solenoid.
Correction: Dealers will install relay timer kit 508947KS by following the installation instructions outlined in Service Bulletin 508949 REV B. The relay timer will limit the time the solenoid will be energized to 1 second.

Second Notice
This notice applies to your vehicle: lFMSK
Dear Valued BraunAbility Owner:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
BraunAbility has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model year 2016-2019 Explorer BraunAbility MXV wheelchair accessible conversions with Tilt n Go seating manufactured from December 11, 2017- June 7, 2019. The electrical circuit which operates the solenoid in the Tilt n Go seats is unprotected from electrical fault or inadvertent switch operation. The Tilt n Go seat switch, when engaged for a prolonged period of time, may degrade the wiring leading to the solenoid increasing the risk of electrical fire. This defect could occur with no warning.
The remedy is to schedule an appointment with your local BraunAbility dealer for repair. The BraunAbility dealer will install a timer which will limit the time the solenoid can be energized. The repair should take approximately one hour. You may call and schedule an appointment with a BraunAbility dealer for repair without charge starting on August 7, 2019.
If you had this remedy performed on your BraunAbility vehicle prior to receiving this letter, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of the remedy. To see if you qualify, contact the BraunAbility Customer Experience Group by calling 833-863-3539 or emailing [email protected].
