Summary
Darsan Trading Co. (Darsan), dba as Helmet City, is recalling certain HCI 100 matt black motorcycle helmets in size XL. These helmets may not adequately protect the wearer in the event of a head impact during a motorcycle crash. Additionally, the helmets do not list the month and year of manufacturer. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.”
Remedy
HCI will notify owners, and will provide replacement helmets or give the consumer a credit for a replacement helmet, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in August 2019. Owners may contact Helmet City customer service at 1-888-550-3731.

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Recall Description: Darsan Trading Co. DBA Helmet City (HCI) has decided that Model # 100 size XL Matt Black motorcycle helmet manufactured in June 2016 (“Recalled Helmets”) fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 218. Specifically, the 100 Matt Black XL helmets did not meet S5.1 Impact Attenuation and S5.6.1 Labeling requirements.
Number of Units Affected: 450
Hazard: Increase risk of injury to users in a crash.
Notification Procedures: HCI will provide this notice via mail to any US distributors who purchased the helmets from HCI. HCI requests that all distributors and retailers use this notification letter to notify their customers/consumers of the recall (within 14 days of receiving this notice from HCI). Retailers and distributors should use whichever method of notification is most likely to reach their customer base and keep copies of all notification attempts. Please be reminded that it is a violation of Federal law for you to sell these recalled helmets. Substantial civil penalties apply to violations of this law.
In addition, please post this notice at the point of sale in your retail store or via link to your web site home page for 90 days from the date of this notice above.
Remedy: HCI will replace the recalled helmet(s) with an HCI DOT helmet at NO CHARGE to the consumer.
HCI requests that all retailers, distributors and consumers call HCI to obtain an RMA number BEFORE returning the RECALLED HELMET. Once an RMA number is issued HCI will send a UPS call pickup tag to return the recall helmet to HCI at no cost to the consumer. After inspection of the recalled helmet HCI will exchange helmet for you or your customer at NO CHARGE.
If HCI fails or is unable to remedy this defect without any charges to consumers and within a reasonable time after the recalled helmet is received by HCI you may contact the Administrator at:
