Insufficient Grease on Bearings may cause Failure

A lack of grease on the bearings can cause overheating and premature bearing failure, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary

Lucon, Inc. (Lucon) is recalling certain 2018-2019 Lucon Custom Heavy Haul dual axle trailers, models 10T162FCBW and 10T172FCBW, built on Dexter #13G axles. The axles may lack the proper amount of grease on the inner and outer bearings in the hubs.

 

Remedy

Dexter notified Lucon dealers, and properly greased and reinstalled the components or replaced the components as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 20, 2019. Owners may contact Lucon customer service at 1-770-233-1331.

RE: Dexter Axle Recall

 

To All Lucon Inc. Dealers:

Lucon, Inc. has received notification from Dexter Axle that the company has decided that a potential safety defect exists in certain axles, provided by Dexter, that were used in the manufacture of a limited number of Lucan, Inc. Custom Heavy Haul Model 10T162FCBW and 10T172FCBW utility trailers.

Accordingly, a recall to address this issue was initiated.

The defect involved an insufficient amount of grease applied to bearings on some axles manufactured at a specific Dexter Axle plant between November 7, 2018 and February 26, 2019. This could result in overheating and premature bearing failure.

Lucon Inc. has identified 16 axles that were affected by the recall and those axles were incorporated (2) each into the following 8 Lucon Inc. manufactured Custom Heavy Haul utility
trailers.

Model 10T162FCBW units carrying the following Vehicle Identification Numbers:

Model 10T172FCBW unit carrying the following Vehicle Identification Number

These 8 units were located the Dealership level. Dexter Axle verbally contacted the Dealership and all affected axles were physically inspected and corrected to contain proper amounts of grease by Dexter Axle personnel at no expense to the Dealership. The following VINs were inspected and corrected on 3/21/19:

All affected axles included in this recall notice have been inspected and corrected as of 3/27/19.

 

Please be reminded that it is a violation of Federal law for you to sell of lease the trailers covered by this notification until this recall has been performed. Substantial civil penalties apply to violations of this law.
