Incorrect Information on OCCC/FMVSS 120

An inadvertently overloaded motorhome due to an incorrect carrying capacity can increase the risk of a crash.

Summary

Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2014 Tuscany 36M, 40E, 2015 Citation 24SL, Siesta 24SL, Axis 25.1 and Vegas 25.1, 2016 Four Winds 31E, 31W, 35SF, Chateau 31E, 31W, Synergy SD24, Citation 24SL, 24SS and Siesta 24SL, 24SS, 2017 Four Winds 31E, 31W, Chateau 31E, 35SD, Citation 24SS and Siesta 24SS, 2018 Citation 24SS and Siesta 24SS, 2019 Quantum CR24, Four Winds 24BL, Citation 24MB and Siesta 24MB and 2020 Quantum CR24, Citation 24MB, Siesta 24MB, Chateau 24BL and Synergy 24MB vehicles. The Occupant and Cargo Carrying Capacity (OCCC) label has the incorrect carrying capacity listed, which can allow the vehicle to be overloaded. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 120, “Wheels and Rims – Other Than Passenger Cars.”

 

Remedy

TMC will notify owners, and dealers will issue new OCCC labels with correct seating positions and weight calculations, free of charge. The recall began November 21, 2019. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC’s number for this recall is RC000176.

Issue: 

It has been discovered that on certain Tuscany, Citation, Siesta, Four Winds, Axis, Vegas, Chateau, Quantum, and Synergy motorhomes, the OCCC has the wrong carrying capacity.

Instructions: 

1. Remove the existing yellow OCCC label.
2. Clean area so it is free of dirt and debris.
3. Install new OCCC label in the same location.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) has decided that certain 2014 through 2020 Model Year Axis, Chateau, Citation, Four Winds, Quantum, Siesta, Synergy, Tuscany, and Vegas motorhomes fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS)

No. 120, “Tire Selection and Rims and Motor Home/Recreation Vehicle Trailer Load Carrying Capacity Information for Motor

Vehicles with a GVWR of more than 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds).” As a result, TMC is conducting a safety recall.  We apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause you; however your safety and continued satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.

Reason for this recall	It has been decided that on certain 2014 through 2020 Axis, Chateau, Citation, Four Winds, Quantum, Siesta, Synergy, Tuscany, and Vegas motorhomes, the seatbelt positions were incorrectly allotted thereby providing an incorrect carrying capacity on the OCCC Label. The incorrect information on the label could lead to overloading of the motorhome which could result in poor vehicle handling. This could result in a crash, causing injury and/or property damage.
What we will do	TMC has enclosed the correct label to remedy the non-compliance.
What we need you to do	At your earliest convenience, remove the existing OCCC label and apply the new one in its place. This label is affixed to the interior side of the forward-most door on the passenger side (directly below the window screen) for Class A motorhomes, or on the passenger side door for Class C motorhomes. This remedy will take approximately 5 minutes.

This Safety Recall Notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the United States National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and The Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act and is important for your safety.  

 

Thor Motor Coach (TMC) decided that a non-compliance which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2014 through 2020 models of motor homes.

 

It has been decided that on certain motorhomes, the seatbelt position were incorrectly allotted thereby providing an incorrect carrying capacity on the OCCC Label. The incorrect information on the label could lead to overloading of the motorhome which could result in poor vehicle handling. This could result in an accident, causing injury and/or property damage.

Affected 2014 through 2020 motorhomes include certain models of:

Axis, Chateau, Citation, Four Winds, Quantum, Siesta, Synergy, Tuscany, and Vegas.

 

The required action is to install the updated label provided.

 

Dealers that have stock units impacted by this recall can access the full list of affected VINs sold to their dealership by accessing the “Service Campaign” portion of the TMC Advantage Web Portal.  If any unit on this list has been retail sold you are asked to notify the retail owner as soon as possible of this recall because their vehicle was not registered at the time the retail notice was mailed.  Please immediately register any retail sold units on this list.  As a reminder, you are required by law to complete this recall on any stock units in inventory prior to retail sale.  Any vehicle lessor receiving this notice must forward a copy to the lessee within 10 days.
