Prevost
Cars, Inc. (Prevost
) is recalling certain 2020 X3-45 VIP, X3-45 VIP Entertainer, X3-45 Passenger, H3-45 VIP, and H3-45 Passenger coaches. Due to a missing component, the driver may not be able to adjust the brightness of the dash illumination for the controls and indicators, allowing only the highest level of brightness. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, “Controls and Displays.”
Remedy
Prevost
will notify owners, and dealers will install the missing potentiometer component and required wiring to adjust the brightness of the dash’s illumination, free of charge. The recall began November 28, 2019. Owners may contact Prevost

DESCRIPTION
On vehicles affected by this recall, the dashboard potentiometer (controlling the dash illumination intensity) may not have been factory installed.
MATERIAL

PROCEDURE
| DANGER |
| Park vehicle safely, apply parking brake, stop engine. Prior to working on the vehicle, set the ignition switch to the OFF position and trip the main circuit breakers equipped with a trip button. On Commuter type vehicles, set the battery master switch (master cut-out) to the OFF position.
Lock out & Tag out (LOTO) must be performed during set-up, maintenance or repair activities. Refer to your local procedure for detailed information regarding the control of hazardous energy. |
| NOTE |
| Confirm that the dashboard potentiometer is missing and proceed with the following steps. |
1. Remove the rubber cap installed over the potentiometer opening in the dashboard.
2. Remove the dashboard cover.
3. Under the dash, unscrew and move away (do not disconnect) the AE55 I/O-EA module installed over the potentiometer area.
4. Find the potentiometer wires Pot1 (yellow) & A55J1.1 (orange) and remove the jumper wire connecting them together.
5. Replace the Pot1 terminal.
− Cut the Pot1 wire factory terminal and splice the wire end.
− Install (crimp) the supplied smaller 562291 terminal to the spliced end of the Pot1 wire.
− Install the supplied 562499 shrink tubing over the new connector (metal/spade part of the connector must be entirely covered).
6. H3-45 VIP and X3-45 VIP Commercial use vehicles:
− Enlarge the potentiometer opening to 10mm (3/8in) using a regular drill bit.
H3-45 & X3-45 Coaches:
− Enlarge & offset 3.5mm (9/64in) to the left the potentiometer opening using either, a 10mm (3/8in) die grinder bit, a stepped bit or a round file.
NOTE
H3-45 & X3-45 vehicles: If present, remove the dash switch next to the potentiometer opening.
7. Connect the supplied 563881 potentiometer (once installed, tab connectors will point down).
− Remove & discard the potentiometer locating tab (reinstall the lock nut).
− Connect the Pot1 wire (smaller terminal) to the potentiometer center tab (carefully bent the center tab 45deg).
− Connect the A55J1.1 wire to the lower right tab (viewed from front, knob side as shown).
8. Install the potentiometer on the vehicle dashboard.
− Insert the potentiometer in the dash opening (connectors pointing down).
− Secure the potentiometer to the dash using the supplied locknut.
− H3-45 & X3-45 coaches: Reinsert & reconnect the rocker switch next to the potentiometer & check for correct clearance.
IMPORTANT
There must be at least a 1.5mm (1/16in) gap between the rocker switch and the potentiometer body.
− Install the potentiometer knob (secure with the small locknut on the side of the knob).
− Connect the vehicle power & turn the lights on to validate that the potentiometer is working properly.
− Make sure that there is sufficient obscurity inside the driving area and watch for a dimming effect on the panel switches, radio & cluster display.
− Make sure that the knob pointer travel is correct (pointer is at the lower left at the low setting and lower right at the max setting).
− Reinstall the AE55 I/O-EA module and the dash cover.
PARTS DISPOSITION
Discard waste according to applicable environmental regulations (Municipal/State[Prov.]/ Federal)
WARRANTY
This modification is covered by Prevost
’s normal warranty. We will reimburse you the parts and one hour (1.0) of labor upon receipt of a completed A.F.A. Please submit claim via our Online Warranty System, available at www.prevostcar.com (under service \ warranty section). Use Claim Type: “Bulletin/Recall” and select ‘’Safety Recall SR19-42 “.

PREVOST SAFETY RECALL SR19-42 “Potentiometer Installation”
Dear Customer,
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and 49 CFR Part 573.
Prevost
Car US Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2020 H3-45 coaches & H3-45 VIP motorhomes; 2019 – 2020 X3-45 coaches and X3-45 VIP for commercial use.
According to our records, you are the registered owner of the following vehicle(s) involved in safety recall SR19-42 :

DEFECT DESCRIPTION
On the vehicles involved, the potentiometer & components to adjust the brightness of illumination for controls and indicators may be missing. The only available level of brightness for identification of controls and indicators would then be the highest.
FAILURE CONSEQUENCE
This presents a risk that during night time vehicle operation, highest level of brightness for identification of controls and indicators may impact the driver attention and road vision and may increase the risk of a crash.
CORRECTIVE ACTIONS
For all vehicles involved, Prevost
will install free of charge, the potentiometer component and required wiring required to adjust the brightness of illumination for controls.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
Please make an appointment to your nearest Prevost
Service Center and refer to SR19-42 to have the work performed free of charge.
Optionally, you may have the work performed by qualified personnel of your choice, following the Safety Recall SR19-42 procedure that can be found on Prevost Technical Publications web site at this address:
Prevost
will reimburse you parts and labor as described in the SR19-42 procedure. Please file an online warranty claim following normal Campaign procedures if you are a registered customer, otherwise, contact the Prevost
Warranty Department at 1-866-870-2046 for reimbursement instructions.
The time to inspect and repair your vehicle if required is approximately one hour (1.0 h).
PRE NOTIFICATION REMEDIES
If you have previously paid for repairs as a result of this issue, you may be entitled to recovery of those expenses. Prevost
Car US will reimburse the claimant by check for the reasonable amount paid for repairs (i.e. the cost of parts, labor, disposal fees and taxes) that addressed the defect as stated in the safety recall notification. To qualify, repairs must have been completed no earlier than one year prior to the release of the recall and no later than 10 days after the release of the recall mailing of the initial customer notification letter pertaining to the recall. To get reimbursed, please file an online warranty claim following normal Campaign procedures if you are a registered customer, otherwise, contact the Prevost
Warranty Department at 1-866-870-2046 for reimbursement instructions.
NOTICE REGARDING LEASED VEHICLES
If you are a Lessor of vehicles subject to this Notice, you have an obligation under Federal Law to provide a copy of this Notice to all Lessees within 10 working days of your receipt of this Notice. Further, you must maintain a record, which identifies the Lessee(s) to whom you send a copy of this letter, the date you send this letter, and the Vehicle Identification Number(s) of the vehicle(s) that you have leased to that lessee. For purposes of this Notice, the term Lessor means: a person or entity that is the owner, as reflected on the vehicle’s title, of any five or more leased vehicles (as defined in CFR Section 577.4), as of the date of notification by the manufacturer of the existence of a safety-related defect or noncompliance with a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard in one or more of the leased motor vehicles.
