Situation

Immediate Attention Necessary

There are reports of tow pole bolts loosening or breaking due to impact or rough road conditions.

The current 2 tow pole bolts are grade 5 bolts, torqued to 101 N∙m (75 ft-lb). We are upgrading them to grade 8 bolts and increasing the bolt torque specification.

It is a violation of Federal law to lease any of the Log Splitters covered by this notice until the vehicle is repaired in accordance with the instructions in the Service Bulletin.

Corrective Action

Rework

Ensure that the existing Grade 5 tow pole bolts and nuts are torqued to 101 N∙m (75 ft-lb) before any rental until you receive and install the new Grade 8 bolts.

Refer to the attached instruction sheet for the hardware installation process and torque when you receive the new bolts.

Please complete repairs by January 1, 2020.

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL

This notice applies to your vehicle, VIN:

NHTS Recall #19V-847

December,2019

Dear Toro Log Splitter Owner

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

The Toro Company, manufacturer of the Toro LC922 Log Splitter, has decided that a defect relating to the Log splitter safety exists in certain Model Year 2017 through 2019 Toro Log Splitters. Our records indicate that your Log Splitter is included in the affected population of units.

What is the CONCERN?

Toro determined that certain Toro LC922 Log Splitters (22618 & 22618HD) left the manufacturing plant without the  proper tow  pole  bolts, or  tow  pole  bolt  torque.  As a result, the tow pole bolts may loosen  or  break. Loose or  broken  tow  pole bolts could  lead  to an increased risk of  the  unit separating from  the  towing vehicle, or  tipping over.  If the tow  bolts break, the  log splitter can tip over or detach from  tow  vehicle,  increasing the risk of an injury.

What will TORO DO?

Toro will replace the tow pole bolts at no charge to you and increase the tow pole bolt torque. Toro has shipped the needed bolts to each Home Depot location on record having a log splitter. Labor to update will be reimbursed to Home Depot once the rework has been completed. We are dedicated to always delivering the best customer experience, and respect for your time is a top priority. The needed parts have been shipped from Toro, and the repair takes about 15 minutes to complete. (See attached service bulletin SWS#126)

Information for Owners

In the event that you are no longer the current owner, or have had a change of address, please complete the reverse side and return the updated information in the enclosed envelope.

If Toro for any reason is  unable to  remedy  the  situation  without  charge, or within a reasonable  amount  of  time, pursuant to law 49 U.S.C. Chapter 301, you  may submit a  complaint  to  the  Administrator,  National  Highway  Traffic Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Avenue, S.E., Washington, D.C. 20590 or call the toll-free Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888 -327-4236 (TTY 1- 800-424 -9153); or go to http :// www.safe rcar.gov

It is a violation of Federal law for you to lease any of the Log Splitters covered by this notice until the vehicle is repaired in accordance with the instructions in the Service Bullet in.

We apologize for any inconvenience this situation may cause you.

Sincerely

Kindling Cracker King XL Firewood Kindling Splitter – Extra-Large Cast Iron Wood Splitting Wedge, 9' Safety Ring, Extra Large 17' Height, No Axe Needed, Made in Australia

Kindling Cracker King XL Firewood Kindling Splitter – Extra-Large Cast Iron Wood Splitting Wedge, 9" Safety Ring, Extra Large 17" Height, No Axe Needed, Made in Australia
  • THE WORLD'S SAFEST WAY TO SPLIT KINDLING - INVENTED BY A TEENAGER: The Kindling Cracker was designed by 13-year-old Ayla Hutchinson of New Zealand after her mother injured her hand with a splitting axe. Her solution: a patented cast iron safety ring that keeps your hands completely away from the fixed splitting wedge at all times. No swinging blade. No close calls. Just clean, safe kindling - every time.
  • EFFORTLESS TO USE - ANYONE CAN DO IT: Place a log inside the 9-inch cast iron safety ring, strike the top with a mallet, hammer, or even another piece of wood, and the fixed wedge does the rest. Requires significantly less force than a standard axe, making it accessible for all ages and skill levels - from curious kids to 84-year-olds who want to keep splitting their own kindling independently
  • ONE SOLID PIECE OF AUSTRALIAN CAST IRON - BUILT FOR GENERATIONS: Forged as a single, seamless piece of premium cast iron at an Australian foundry, the Kindling Cracker has no welds, no joints, no moving parts, and no blade to sharpen. Zero maintenance. Works in temperatures as low as -94°F (-70°C). A tool your grandkids' grandkids can use.
  • INTERNATIONALLY AWARDED, PATENTED, AND ONE OF A KIND: The Kindling Cracker is not just another tool - it's a patented, award-winning innovation that has earned global recognition since its invention by a teenage student in New Zealand. Backed by internationaleBay logo accolades and sold in dozens of countries worldwide, it remains the original and most trusted kindling splitter on the market. Imitations exist - there is only one Kindling Cracker.
  • PERFECT FOR EVERY FIRE, XL SIZE HANDLES 40% LARGER LOGS: The King's expanded 9-inch inside diameter safety ring accommodates logs nearly 40% larger than the original Kindling Cracker, while the 17-inch tall frame gives you plenty of clearance for longer pieces of firewood - perfect for splitting a full stack quickly and efficiently.
