Summary
Corp. Micro Bird Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2004-2021 T-Series, G5, and MBII school buses. The emergency door retaining device may fail to keep the door in an open position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 217, “Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release.”
Remedy
Micro Bird will notify owners, and dealers will install a kit to repair the emergency door retaining device, free of charge. The recall April 24, 2020. Owners may contact Micro Bird customer service at 1-819-477-2012. Micro Bird’s number for this recall is 20-084-RUS.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
What is being recalled?
Micro Bird has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2004-2021 T-Series, G5 and MBII school buses, built on Ford
, Ford Transit and GM chassis, manufactured between November 2, 2004 and March 6, 2020 equipped with a rear emergency door retaining device.
Why is it being recalled?
The rear emergency door retaining device may prematurely stop working properly.
What is the safety issue?
The rear emergency door retaining device may break apart and/or stop retaining the emergency door in the open position, which may cause the door to close during emergency evacuation of the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.
What are we asking you to do?
- Locate the affected unit(s) in your fleet and visit MB Recall Portal at https://recall.microbird.com/ to order your repair kit(s). You will need your Identification Code to access your account on the portal. Your Identification Code is provided with this recall (See the Memo Micro Bird Recall Portal). Please, keep it on file for you will need it to file your claim on the portal after repair.
- For reimbursement, visit MB Recall Portal at https://recall.microbird.com/ or complete the reply sheet for each repaired vehicle and send it back to Micro Bird Corporation Inc. by fax at 819 475 9633 or by email at [email protected]. This will enable us to update our files
What will Micro Bird do?
Micro Bird will provide a repair kit as well as field modification instruction to mitigate this recall at no charge. It will be the responsibility of the bus owners to execute the mitigation.
When will the repair kit be available?
Micro Bird do not anticipate being able to start shipping before July 2020.
How long will it take?
The time allotted by Micro Bird Inc. for the repair is 6 minutes per vehicle

ATTENTION: The rear emergency door retaining device installed in delivered vehicles – Part 18DZZ001 – is no longer available for purchase and shall not be sold to a final owner or installed in a vehicle. Accordingly, we are asking you to immediately quarantine all units of part 18DZZ001 you have in stock. When available, we will provide recall repair kits for the quarantined parts.
A new rear emergency door retaining device – Part A000978 – has been designed and is currently installed in all new vehicles. It will soon be available for purchase.
What we are asking you to do?
- Locate and remove any Part 18DZZ001 units you have in stock. These parts may be kept for repair, but should not be installed. Contact us by email at [email protected] to inform us of the number of Part 18DZZ001 units for which you will need a repair kit.
- Locate the affected unit(s) in your fleet and contact us by email at [email protected] to order your repair kit(s). Please note that we do not expect being able to ship repair kits before July 2020.
- For reimbursement, complete the reply sheet for each repaired vehicle and send it back to Micro Bird Corporation Inc. by fax at 819 475 9633 or by email at [email protected] or file your reimbursement claim via GOLS. This will enable us to update our files

This notice is to advise you that the field remedy procedure and parts are not available at this moment. You will receive a second notice when the remedy procedure become available.
ATTENTION: The rear emergency door retaining device installed in delivered vehicles – Part 18DZZ001
– is no longer available for purchase and shall not be sold to a final owner or installed in a vehicle. Accordingly, we are asking you to immediately quarantine all units of part 18DZZ001 you have in stock. When available, we will provide recall repair kits for the quarantined parts.
