Without the seatbelt warning reminder, the driver may forget to fasten the seatbelt, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Summary

Turtle Top is recalling certain 2019 Turtle Top Odyssey vehicles built on GMC Savana and Chevrolet Express chassis. The seatbelt-unfastened warning light will not illuminate for approximately five seconds after the ignition is moved to the “on” or “start” position. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.”

 

Remedy

Turtle Top will notify owners, and GM dealers will reprogram the instrument panel cluster, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin April 2020. Owners may contact Turtle Top customer service at 1-800-296-2105.

Dear General Motors Customer:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

General Motors has decided that certain 2019 model year Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vehicles may fail to conform to S7.3 of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 208, Occupant crash protection.  As a result, GM is conducting a recall.  We apologize for this inconvenience.  However, we are concerned about your safety and continued satisfaction with our products.

 

I M P O R T A N T

• Your vehicle is involved in GM safety recall N192264500.
• Schedule an appointment with your GM dealer.
• This service will be performed for you at no charge.

 

Why is your vehicle being recalled?	In these vehicles, the seatbelt-unfastened telltale will not illuminate for approximately five seconds after the ignition is moved to the on or start position.  There is no impact to the vehicle’s seatbelt systems, and the telltale will function normally after the five second delay. A software change implemented for 2019 model year Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vehicles contains an error that inhibits the activation of the telltale for five seconds after vehicle startup. During the five-second delay, the telltale will not alert the driver that the driver’s seatbelt is unbuckled, increasing the risk of the driver forgetting to buckle the seatbelt and the risk of injury in a crash.
What will we do?	Your GM dealer will reprogram the instrument panel cluster (IPC).  This service will be performed for you at no charge.  Because of service scheduling requirements, it is likely that your dealer will need your vehicle longer than the actual inspection and service correction time of approximately 35 minutes.
What should you do?	You should contact your GM dealer to arrange a service appointment as soon as possible.

GM Reprogramming

GM Diagnostic/Programming (TIS2Web)

 

Approved J2534 Device with TIS2WEB can reprogram 1996 and later All GM Modules.

To obtain the latest electronic controller calibration information for your vehicle, go to https://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web and enter the vehicle's 17 character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and select 'Get CAL ID’.

You can then compare the latest part number with the actual number installed on the vehicle to determine if a reprogram is needed.

The Service Programming System (SPS) application is part of the TIS2Web system. To program an ECU, the SPS application must communicate with the vehicle control modules using the proper J2534 programming interface tool.

The Tech 2 supports model years 1996 and beyond. With the addition of the CAN Diagnostic Interface (CANdi) module, Tech 2 is fully backward compatible with current Tech 2 functionality and operates transparently when diagnosing non-CAN-equipped vehicles.

Servicing the next generation Global A vehicles will require the diagnostic software, GDS2, Global Diagnostic System 2 running on a local PC device while the MDI is connected to the vehicle. The GM MDI is the Global Diagnostic tool for future vehicles starting with Global A vehicles.

The GM MDI was introduced in the fall of 2007 for Pass-Thru programming and offers faster programming speed. It can be used to perform Pass-Thru programming on all vehicles built since 1996 and into the future. Click here to view a list of GDS supported vehicles.
