Driveshaft May Separate From Rear Axle

If the driveshaft separates, there may be a loss of drive, increasing the risk of crash. Additionally, if the parking brake is not applied, unintended vehicle movement can occur if the transmission is left in Park, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

Summary

Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2020 Chateau 31W and 31WV, Quantum KW29 and LF31, Vegas 24.1 and Axis 24.1 motorhomes and 2020-2021 Four Winds 24F, 28Z, and 31E motorhomes built on a Ford chassis. The rear axle differential may have an insufficient amount of fluid, possibly resulting in a failure of the rear axle assembly and a driveshaft separation.

 

Remedy

Ford will notify owners, and Ford or Lincoln dealers will inspect the rear axle differential fluid level and adjust it, or replace the rear axle as necessary, free of charge. The recall is began May 22, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC’s number for this recall is RC000188.

This Safety Recall Notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the United States National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act and The Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Act and is important for your safety.  

Thor Motor Coach (TMC) has decided that a safety defect exists in certain TMC motorhomes based upon notification by Ford Motor Company that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain Ford chassis that were used to manufacture your TMC motorhome. Ford’s recall number is 20S09. To assist Ford in identifying the final vehicles manufactured, TMC is also conducting a safety recall.  We apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause you; however your safety and continued satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.

On certain TMC motorhomes subject to this recall campaign, it may be possible that rear axle differential fluid is below the minimum fill level. This may result in premature failure of the rear axle assembly, increasing the risk of a crash.

TMC has included in this mailing the recall notification letter from Ford. Ford will be handling the repair of the vehicle at an authorized Ford dealer.  The dealer will be inspecting the rear axle differential fluid level and adjust or replace if necessary. The time needed for the repair is less than one-half day.

If the referenced unit on this letter has been retail sold, you are asked to notify the retail owner as soon as possible of this recall because their vehicle was not registered at the time the retail notice was mailed.  Please immediately register any retail sold units on this list.  As a reminder, you are required by law to complete this recall on any stock units in inventory prior to retail sale.  Any vehicle lessor receiving this notice must forward a copy to the lessee within 10 days.
