1. Amerex Fire Suppression &
Gas Detection Systems
1.1. Purpose
This bulletin is issued to ensure that all
users are aware of the preventive maintenance
requirements necessary to support
the Fire Suppression and Gas Detection
Systems. The preventive maintenance
schedule covers the following Amerex Systems:
❒ Modular III Fire Suppression – Amerex
Manual Number 13980, and Number
19680
❒ Amerex Vehicle Safety Net (AVSN) Fire
Suppression – Amerex Manual Number
13980, and if equipped with optical sensors,
Number 16601.
❒ AMGaDS Fire Suppression & Gas Detection
– Amerex Manual Number 14475.
❒ Amerex Vehicle Safety Net (AVSN) Gas
Detection – Amerex Manual Number
16601.
1.2. Preventive Maintenance
☞NOTE:
Amerex manuals must be used in conjunction
with the basic information contained
within this Bulletin to fully comply with all
preventive maintenance requirements.
1.2.1. Preventive Maintenance Schedule
The following table provides an overview of
the scheduled maintenance intervals and
the systems affected. Refer to the specific
maintenance interval and applicable
Amerex manual(s) associated with each
system for detailed maintenance requirements.

1.3. Daily Preventive Maintenance
1.3.1. Modular III Fire Suppression System
Check the operational status of the fire
suppression system on a daily basis:
❒ Inspect the control panel and confirm that
the SYSTEM OK green LED is illuminated.
❒ Confirm that the FIRE, RELAY RESET,
and SERVICE SYSTEM LED’s are extinguished
☞NOTE:
DO NOT operate the vehicle if either the
FIRE, RELAY RESET, or SERVICE SYSTEM
LED’s are illuminated. Contact service
personnel to investigate the cause.
1.3.2. AVSN Fire Suppression System
Check the operational status of the fire
suppression system on a daily basis. Set
the Master Run switch to DAY-RUN and
observe the display panel for the following:
❒ The display should read “System OK”
immediately following self-configuration.
❒ Confirm that the system POWER green
LED is illuminated.
❒ Confirm that both the FIRE red LED and
TROUBLE yellow LED are extinguished.
❒ Confirm that both GAS CONCENTRATION
LED’s (if equipped) are extinguished.
❒ Confirm that the RELAY RESET red LED
is extinguished
☞NOTE:
DO NOT operate the vehicle if any of the
red or yellow LED’s are illuminated. Contact
service personnel to investigate the
cause.

1.4. Monthly Preventive Maintenance
1.4.1. Modular III or AVSN Fire Suppression
System
❒ Open access door behind streetside rear
light panel to access gauge. See “Fig. 1:
Fire Suppression Cylinder Inspection” on
page 3.
❒ Check pressure gauge on agent cylinder to
ensure it is in the operating (green) range.
❒ Check all nameplates and instructional
labels for legibility.
❒ Check physical condition of all components
for mechanical damage and security
of mounting.
❒ Check nozzles of agent cylinder. Nozzle
outlets must be free of obstructions. Blowoff
caps must be intact and secure.
❒ Ensure pull pin on manual actuator is in
place.
❒ Test the alarm and LED functions by
pressing the diamond-shaped “PRESS TO
TEST” button on the face of the control
panel. The alarm should sound and all
LED’s should illuminate.
☞NOTE:
The “Push to Test” function will not cause a
system discharge.

1.5. Six Month Preventive
Maintenance
1.5.1. Modular III or AVSN Fire Suppression
System (without gas detection)
Perform the following inspections and servicing
procedures every six months:
☞NOTE:
Refer to Amerex Installation, Operation,
and Maintenance Manuals No. 13980 and
16601 for specific requirements and procedures
❒ Visually inspect condition of all fire suppression
components.
❒ Service the agent cylinder(s).
❒ Service the discharge valve.
❒ Inspect pressure gauge on discharge
valve.
❒ Service the discharge network.
❒ Confirm that all nozzles are properly aimed
and all blow-off caps are installed.
❒ Service the distribution system components.
❒ Service and test the detection network.
❒ Test the agent cylinder pressure switch circuit.
❒ Test the backup battery function.
❒ Inspection condition of wiring and connectors.
❒ Check last recharge date on agent cylinder
inspection tag.
❒ Inspect and test Safe-IR Optical Flame
Detectors (infrared sensors), if equipped.
1.5.2. AVSN Fire Suppression & Gas
Detection System
Perform the following inspections and servicing
procedures on the fire suppression
system every six months:
☞NOTE:
Refer to Amerex Installation, Operation,
and Maintenance Manuals No. 13980 and
16601 for specific requirements and procedures

1.6. Three Year Preventive
Maintenance
1.6.1. Modular III Fire Suppression System
Replace the backup battery located inside
the fire suppression control panel every
three years. See “Fig. 2: Battery Replacement
Location” on page 5.

1.6.2. AVSN Fire Suppression System
Replace the backup battery located inside
the fire suppression Driver Panel every
three years.
1. Set the Battery Disconnect swtich to the
OFF position.
2. Remove the access panel directly above
the driver’s side window.
3. Disconnect electrcal harnesses from the
Driver Panel.
4. Remove the four screws that mount the
Driver Panel to the mounting bracket.
5. Access the backside of the Driver Panel
and remove the four cover screws.
6. Remove backup battery.
7. Installation is the reverse of removal.
1.7. Six Year Preventive Maintenance
1.7.1. Modular III or AVSN Fire Suppression
System
Replace the electric actuator, located on
the discharge valve, following every six
years of service.
☞NOTE:
Refer to Amerex Installation, Operation,
and Maintenance Manual No. 16601 for
specific requirements and procedures.
