1. Daily Preventive
Maintenance
1.1. Wheelchair Tie-Down & Occupant
Restraints
If the vehicle was involved in an impact
situation, significant enough to have
the vehicle towed, then the wheelchair
tie-downs, occupant restraints, and
anchorages that were in use at the time
should be replaced.
The following items should be inspected on
a daily basis:
❒ Check belt retractor mechanism by extending
and releasing belt. Ensure belt retractor
operates as designed and functions
smoothly.
❒ Inspect belts to ensure webbing is not cut,
frayed, damaged, or contaminated by polishes,
oils, or chemicals.
❒ Operate buckles and any locking or
release mechanisms. Ensure mechanisms
operate smoothly and release completely.
❒ Ensure all floor anchors are secure and
free of obstructions, debris and dirt.
Tighten mounting hardware as required.
☞NOTE:
If any mounting hardware requires tightening
or adjustment, the fastener must be
removed to have the threads cleaned and
Loctite 243 reapplied.
❒ Ensure all wall anchors for belts are properly
secured and allow proper freedom of
movement.
❒ Ensure floor surface in wheelchair restraint
area is undamaged and free of any condition
which would impede use of equipment.
❒ Ensure the belts are kept clean and
recoiled within the retractor when not in
use.
❒ Ensure all labels detailing use of restraint
equipment are undamaged and clearly legible.
2. 6,000 Miles (9,600 km)
Preventive Maintenance
2.1. Wheelchair Tie-Down & Occupant
Restraints
Perform the following activities every 6,000
miles (9,600 km):
❒ Clean belts as required using mild soap
and water. Do not use solvents, chemical
solutions or strong detergents. If required,
soak belts for several hours in water to
loosen dirt. Clean, rinse and dry thoroughly
before returning to service.
❒ Lubricate the tiedown belt buckles at the
hinges being careful not to contaminate
the webbing.

SMB140
- COMPLETE 4-POINT SECUREMENT SYSTEM: Includes four (4) genuine Q'Straint QRT Standard Retractors (Q8-6201-L) designed for floor L-Track anchorage. This kit provides the necessary tiedowns to secure one wheelchair or mobility scooter in transit, paratransit, and school bus applications.
- L-TRACK "PLI" SAFETY FITTING: Features Q'Straint's patented Positive Lock Indicator (PLI). When the retractor is slid into the floor track, the PLI visual indicator clearly confirms the fitting is locked and safe, eliminating guesswork for the driver.
- SEMI-AUTOMATIC TENSIONING: The QRT Standard utilizes a single-tension knob design. This allows the operator to quickly tighten the J-Hook straps against the wheelchair frame with one hand, reducing dwell time and ensuring a rigid, safe securement.
- UNIVERSAL J-HOOK ATTACHMENT: Equipped with heavy-duty J-Hooks that easily attach to virtually any manual or power wheelchair frame. The retractors are fully interchangeable (no specific front/rear units), simplifying inventory for fleet managers.
- COMPACT & LOW PROFILE: The hardened steel, zinc-coated housing fits under most wheelchair footrests and resists corrosion. Ideal for NEMT providers, mobility van converters, and personal accessible vehicles seeking a crash-tested solution.
- COMPLETE 4-POINT SECUREMENT KIT: Includes four (4) Q8-6201-L QRT Standard Retractors with PLI L-Track fittings, one (1) Q8-6325-A vehicle-mounted occupant securement unit, one (1) Q5-6500A-5 Shoulder Bracket Mounting Bracket, Instruction Adhesive Label, Installation Instructions, Operator Guide, and 2-Year Limited Warranty Card. Designed for NEMT fleets, paratransit vans, school buses, city buses, coach buses, rail vehicles, community transport, and wheelchair accessible van (WAV) conversions. L-Track floor anchorage rails sold separately.
- PATENTED PLI POSITIVE LOCK INDICATOR: Q'Straint's patented PLI fitting snaps directly into standard L-Track (aircraft track) floor anchorages and provides clear visual confirmation that the retractor is locked before the vehicle moves — eliminating guesswork at every wheelchair securement. Compatible with L-Track anchorages installed in Fits Ram
ProMaster, Ford
Transit, Mercedes-Benz
Sprinter
, and Compatible with BraunAbility, VMI, and other professionally converted accessible vans and minivans. - FAST, SIMPLE, MECHANICAL RELIABILITY: The single tensioning knob lets the operator tighten and secure the wheelchair tie-down straps in under 10 seconds with one hand — no electronics, no batteries, no automatic mechanisms to service or fail. All four retractors are identical in design, size, and shape: no left, right, front, or rear designation means zero placement confusion during loading. Low-profile, bracketless design fits under most wheelchair footrests without adjustment.
- UNIVERSAL J-HOOK FOR ANY WHEELCHAIR OR SCOOTER: J-Hook ends attach to virtually all manual and power wheelchair and scooter frames with a simple quarter-turn — reducing webbing twist and ensuring correct strap angle on any chair design. Retractors are constructed from hardened steel with a zinc coating for maximum corrosion resistance in daily fleet use. The interchangeable, universal design eliminates the need to stock separate left- and right-hand units — simplifying fleet inventory.
- MEETS ALL REQUIRED SAFETY STANDARDS: The Q-8200-A-L meets or exceeds SAE J2249, ISO 10542, and ADA requirements for wheelchair and occupant securement in transit vehicles. Backed by Q'Straint's 2-year limited manufacturer warranty. For unoccupied wheelchair securement only (no occupant securement unit required), see Q-8201-L. For self-tensioning automatic retractors, see the QRT Deluxe series.
