Trim Cover May Detach and Block Brake Pedal

If the cover piece becomes lodged under the brake pedal, the ability to stop the coach may be impacted, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary

Newell Coach Corp. (Newell) is recalling certain 2020-2021 P50 motor coaches. The decorative cover for the center console column may be knocked loose by the driver’s foot, allowing the piece to become lodged under the brake pedal.

 

Remedy

Newell will notify owners and request the owners remove and discard the decorative cover. Newell will install a replacement apron cover, free of charge. This recall began July 10, 2020. Owners may contact Newell customer service at 1-888-363-9355. Newell’s number for this recall is 124.

Safety Recall: 20V-367

Safety Advisory: June 25, 2020

 

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the  National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Newell Coach has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on Newell Model P50 coaches, with coach numbers from 1665 through 1707. As a result, Newell Coach is conducting a safety recall. We apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause you; however your safety and satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.

Reason for this recall	There is a possibility that the decorative steering column cover at the bottom of the steering column can become detached. Once detached the cover has the potential to become lodged under the brake pedal limiting the stroke of the pedal. This may result in the inability to apply full force of the brake system and potentially lead to an accident.
What we will do	We will replace the decorative steering column cover with a decorative apron at no cost during your next service appointment or at any of our authorized service centers. For repairs made in the field, Newell will supply the necessary parts and pay the service center or reimburse you. The required repairs should take 30 minutes of less to perform.
What we need you to do	You should first and foremost remove and discard the decorative steering column cover. Then contact your Newell service advisor to schedule an appointment at the service center in Miami, OK or to make arrangements for a qualified service center in the field convenient to your location. If you have questions concerning this recall or if you need any assistance, please contact the Newell Coach Warranty/ Ser vice Department by mail at 3900 North Main Street, Miami, OK 74354, or  by phone at 1-888-363 9355. If you had appropriate repairs completed prior to receipt of this recall notice, and if you incurred any direct cost in connection with obtaining such repair, you may be eligible to’ receive reimbursement from Newell Coach by contacting the Newell Coach Warranty/Service Department.
