Frameless Window Glass Panels May Detach

If the window glass detaches while the vehicle is moving it could become a projectile, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.

Summary

Forest RivereBay logo, Inc. (Forest RivereBay logo) is recalling certain 2020 Cedar Creek, Columbus, Flagstaff, Coachmen Apex, Palomino, Rockwood, and Sunseeker recreational vehicles and Palomino soft and hard-side truck camperseBay logo and Real-Lite Truck CamperseBay logo. The adhesive bond between the glass and the metal hinge frame of the frameless crank out vent and egress windows may fail which would then allow the glass to detach and fall out.

 

Remedy

Forest RivereBay logo will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the windows for proper adhesive bond strength, replacing the windows as necessary, free of charge. This recall began July 15, 2020. Subject

Identification and inspection of a potential adhesive bond issue between the glass and aluminum frame for the following 3000 series frameless windows manufactured between January 6 through January 23, 2020:

  • Cordless or electric drill or screw gun

  • 3/16″ drill bit
  • Pop rivet gun
  • Ladder

 

Window Identification

Window Size

Egress and Insulated

  1. Inside the unit a smaller INSULATED WINDOW sticker (Fig. 3) can be seen or the super spacer (Fig. 4A) sandwiched between two panes of glass will be visible in addition to the EXIT sticker (Fig. 1) or red handle (Fig. 2).
  2. Outside the unit the white backside of the INSULATED WINDOW sticker (Fig. 3) can be seen located above the white backside of the EXIT sticker (Fig. 1).

 

Inspection

NOTE: Windows must be inspected (viewed) from outside the unit.

  1. Make sure the unit is on a level, flat surface then chock the wheels.
  2. Inspect the frameless window for proper adhesive bond where the glass meets the hinge frame (Fig. 5A).

NOTE: Fixed glass does not need to be inspected.

  1. Using under 20 pounds of force, or the amount of force it would take to open a car door, test all 3000 series crank-out vent and egress windows by gently tugging on the glass at the frame by hand or with a tool that will not scratch the glass.
  2. If the glass does not separate from the hinge (Fig. 6A), it is a good DO NOT REPLACE the vent. If the glass is not adhering to the vent (Fig. 7A), the glass DOES NEED TO BE REPLACED.

Submit all claims to RV OEM.

Inspection: 0.5 hour per unit

Replacement of glass: 0.3 hour per window

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. This notice is also sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Forest RivereBay logo – Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”) has decided that a defect, which relates to the motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2020 Coachmen Apex, Cedar Creek, Columbus, Flagstaff, Palomino Hard Side Truck CampereBay logo, Palomino Soft Side Truck CampereBay logo, Real-Lite Truck CampereBay logo, Rockwood, and Palomino Travel Trailers. Also in certain 2020 Sunseeker motorhome recreational vehicles. This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person.

 

WHAT IS THE DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE? 

In certain LipperteBay logo Components, Inc. 3000 Series frameless windows, there is a potential poor adhesive bond between the hinge extrusion and the latch extrusion to the glass.

 

EVALUATION OF THE RISK TO THE VEHICLE AND OPERATOR(S) RELATED TO THE RECALL.

If the adhesion bond fails where the glass meets the hinge frame, the window glass could potentially detach. If the window glass detaches especially in transit the risk of a crash, property damage, death or injury could occur.

 

WHAT IS FOREST RIVEReBay logo AND OUR DEALERSHIPS GOING TO DO?

Forest RivereBay logo is notifying dealerships of the recall. You may have the recall corrected at any Forest RivereBay logo dealership. However, it is preferable if you have your selling dealership perform the remedy. Forest RivereBay logo completely covers your cost for the remedy; you will not receive any bill of sale for anything covered under the above recall number.

 

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

Please contact your dealer immediately and request a service appointment to schedule the free remedy to inspect and/or replace the glass.  The vehicle Owner is responsible for arranging to have the work completed.  Please state you have been notified by Forest RivereBay logo of having a recall in process for your vehicle and provide the recall number for the dealership.  It is also helpful to the dealership to have a copy of this letter when you take your vehicle in for the recall remedy.

HOW LONG WILL THE REMEDY PROCESS TAKE?

The estimated time of repair varies. However, the dealership may need to keep your vehicle or schedule an appointment with you for a later date to fit into their regular service schedule.

 

WHAT IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY PAID FOR REPAIRS TO YOUR VEHICLE FOR THIS PARTICULAR CONDITION?

If you have already paid for a repair that is within the scope of this defect under recall, you still need to have this recall inspected and/or performed to ensure the correct parts and procedures were utilized.

Additionally, you may be eligible for a refund of previously paid repairs. Refunds will only be provided for within the scope of this defect under recall.

Also in certain 2020 Sunseeker motorhome recreational vehicles listed under this Recall.

 

If your dealership has already performed the remedy to 2020 Coachmen Apex, Cedar Creek, Columbus, Flagstaff,

Palomino Hard Side Truck CampereBay logo, Palomino Soft Side Truck CampereBay logo, Real-Lite Truck CampereBay logo, Rockwood, and Palomino Travel Trailers. Also in certain 2020 Sunseeker motorhome recreational vehicles, your dealership is entitled to the reimbursement as stated above by filing a claim using the indicated repair code(s).  If the remedy needs to be performed on an out of warranty 2020 Coachmen Apex, Cedar Creek, Columbus, Flagstaff, Palomino Hard Side Truck CampereBay logo, Palomino Soft Side Truck CampereBay logo, Real-Lite Truck CampereBay logo, Rockwood, and Palomino Travel Trailers. Also in certain 2020 Sunseeker motorhome recreational vehicles in which the VIN falls under as stated in the identified VIN listing, your dealership is entitled to the reimbursement as stated above by filing a claim using the indicated repair code(s).

 

Notice:

In no manner shall a Forest RivereBay logo Product Owner or Coachmen Product Owner be charged any fee(s) for scheduling, conduction or completion of the recall.  Additionally, all dealership(s) that are Forest RivereBay logo and/or Coachmen dealership(s) are Federally Mandated to perform the recall once presented with this recall whether by the Owner or Dealership receipt of this letter, without denial of service to the Owner.  Lastly, denial of a remedy for this recall is a Federal Violation punishable by law resulting substantial fines and/or civil penalties.

 

Federal Regulation requires that any lessor receiving this Recall must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days.  If your dealership no longer owns this vehicle, please inform the Warranty Manager of the product listed above of the change of ownership.
