Summary
Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Freedom Elite, and 2021 Four Winds motorhomes. A 100amp converter breaker was incorrectly installed at the battery tray when a 70amp breaker is required, possibly resulting in the wiring connected to the breaker overheating.
Remedy
TMC will notify owners, and dealers will replace the converter breaker with one of the correct amperage if needed, free of charge. This recall began September 18, 2020. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-855-2867. TMC’s number for this recall is RC000199.

Issue:
It has been discovered that Certain Model Year 2019-2021 Four Winds & Freedom Elite motorhomes may have had the incorrect size converter breaker installed. During production, the converter breaker installed at the battery tray may be a 100amp breaker when a 70amp breaker is required. The wiring connected to the breaker can overheat, which could lead to melting and the potential for a fire.
Parts Required for Repair:

70amp converter breaker
Tools Needed for Repair:
3/8” nut driver
Instructions: Inspection:
- Open step cover- where house battery located
- If the breaker is 100 amp breaker, it will need to be replaced with a 70 amp breaker. Continue to Step 4.
If motorhome has the correct 70amp breaker installed, the inspection is complete. No repair required.
Repair:
- Unplug the coach and turn off the inverter.
- Disconnect the ground cable from the house battery.
- Loosen nuts on breaker with 7/16” socket and ratchet. Remove the two tech screws with 3/8” nut driver.
- Connect the two cables to new breaker but do not tighten completely.
- Align holes with wall and breaker and install both mounting screws.
- Tighten cables to 25 inch pounds.
- Reconnect the ground cable to the ground lug on the battery. Check voltage on both connections on the breaker. They should be the same.
- Install terminal covers and plug coach back in.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Thor Motor Coach (TMC) has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model year 2019-2021 Four Winds & Freedom Elite motorhomes. As a result, TMC is conducting a safety recall. We apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause you; however your safety and continued satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.
Reason for this recall
It has been discovered that on certain model year 2019-2021 Four Winds & Freedom Elite motorhomes may have had the incorrect size converter breaker installed. The wiring connected to the breaker can overheat, which could lead to melting and the potential for a fire.
What we will do
TMC has contacted your selling dealer and has instructed them on to inspect the breaker size and replace with the correct size if needed. The correct size breaker for your motorhome is a 70amp and may currently have a 100amp. This will be done at no cost to you the owner. The remedy should take up to fifteen (15) minutes to perform.

Thor Motor Coach (TMC) decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain models of the below listed motorhomes.
It has been discovered that on certain model year 2019-2021 Four Winds & Freedom Elite motorhomes may have had the incorrect size converter breaker installed. The correct size breaker for the affected motorhomes is a 70amp and may currently have a 100amp. The wiring connected to the breaker can overheat, which could lead to melting and the potential for a fire.
The required action is to inspect the breaker size and replace if needed. The remedy should take up to fifteen (15) minutes to perform.
Dealers that have stock units impacted by this recall can access the full list of affected VINs sold to their dealership by accessing the “Service Campaign” portion of the TMC Advantage Web Portal. If any unit on this list has been retail sold you are asked to notify the retail owner as soon as possible of this recall because their vehicle was not registered at the time the retail notice was mailed. Please immediately register any retail sold units on this list. As a reminder, you are required by law to complete this recall on any stock units in inventory prior to retail sale. Any vehicle lessor receiving this notice must forward a copy to the lessee within 10 days.
