Summary
Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Daybreak 23DB, 2018-2021 Four Winds 23U, and 2018-2021 Chateau 23U motorhomes. Bolts of the wrong size were used to secure the barrel chair pedestals, allowing the pedestal to separate from the floor in the event of a crash. As such, these motorhomes fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 207, “Seating Systems” and number 210, “Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages.”
Remedy
TMC will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the pedestal bolt size, correcting the hardware as necessary, free of charge. This recall began September 14, 2020. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-855-2867. TMC’s number for this recall is RC000202.

Issue:
It has been discovered that on certain 23DB Daybreak and 23U Four Winds and Chateau units, the incorrect diameter bolts may have been installed on the barrel chair pedestal, which is a noncompliance of FMVSS 207 & 210. In the event of a crash, the pedestal could separate from the floor, causing the seat belt anchorages to fail, which could result in bodily harm.
Parts Required for Repair:
TMC Recall Kit # 0480572
Each Kit Includes:
(4) ½” – 13 x 3 ½” Hex Bolt, Grade 5, Zinc
(4) ½” – 13 Hex Nut, Grade 5, Zinc
(8) ½” Flat Washer
(4) ½” Lock Washer
Tools Required:
- 3/4” Wrench
- 9/16” Wrench
- Torque Wrench
- Drill (with 9/16” drill bit)
Inspect/Repair Instructions:
Inspection:
If socket fits bolt, then correct size bolts (1/2”) are currently installed and no repair is required.
If the socket is too big, the wrong size bolts (3/8”) are installed. Continue to Step 2 for repair.
Repair (will require 2 technicians to complete):
- If the current holes in floor are too small to fit the needed 1/2” bolts, use a 9/16” drill bit to enlarge holes.
- Access the lower portion of bolts via the LP access door. Using 2 technicians, have one inside the motorhome installing the bolts and one underneath to properly secure.
- Install the correct 1/2” bolt, along with a 1/2” flat washer above floor. Install a 1/2″ flat washer, 1/2″ lock washer and 1/2″ nut below floor and tighten.
Torque to 25-30 ft.-lbs.
Repeat for other 3 bolts.

Coach (TMC) has decided that a non-compliance which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model year 2018-2021 Chateau, Daybreak, and Four Winds motorhomes. As a result, TMC is conducting a safety recall. We apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause you; however your safety and continued satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.
Reason for this recall
It has been discovered that on certain 23DB Daybreak and 23U Four Winds & Chateau units, the incorrect diameter bolts may have been installed on the barrel chair pedestal, which is a non-compliance of FMVSS 207 & 210. In the event of a crash, the pedestal could separate from the floor, causing the seat belt anchorages to fail, which could result in bodily harm.
What we will do
TMC has contacted your selling dealer and has instructed them on how to inspect the size of the currently installed bolts and replace if needed. This will be done at no cost to you the owner. The remedy should take approximately up to twenty (20) minutes to perform.

It has been discovered that on certain 23DB Daybreak and 23U Four Winds & Chateau units, the incorrect diameter bolts may have been installed on the barrel chair pedestal, which is a non-compliance of FMVSS 207 & 210. In the event of a crash, the pedestal could separate from the floor, causing the seat belt anchorages to fail, which could result in bodily harm.
The required action is to inspect the size of the currently installed bolts and replace if needed. The repair should approximately up to twenty (20) minutes to perform.
Dealers that have stock units impacted by this recall can access the full list of affected VINs sold to their dealership by accessing the “Service Campaign” portion of the TMC Advantage Web Portal. If any unit on this list has been retail sold you are asked to notify the retail owner as soon as possible of this recall because their vehicle was not registered at the time the retail notice was mailed. Please immediately register any retail sold units on this list. As a reminder, you are required by law to complete this recall on any stock units in inventory prior to retail sale. Any vehicle lessor receiving this notice must forward a copy to the lessee within 10 days.
