20-385 – Auxiliary Fuel Tank Strap Bolts may Break – 2021 Keystone Fuzion Recreational Trailers

Keystone will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the tank strap mounting bolts, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 2, 2020. Owners may contact Keystone customer service at 1-866-425-4369. Keystone’s number for this recall is 20-385.

Fuzion Fuel Tank Bolts

Keystone is conducting a voluntary RECALL notification campaign in accordance with the National Highway Transportation and Safety Act. It has been decided that the vehicles in the recall population may have an auxiliary fuel supply tank that may have been manufactured with improper grade 2 bolts rather than proper grade 5 bolts for the tank mounting straps. Under certain conditions during travel, the grade 2 bolts may break at the mounting point allowing the auxiliary fuel supply tank to become detached from the frame of the unit leading to an increased risk of vehicle crash and/or fire.

Note – Check serial number on Key Express to verify the campaign is open. Some vehicles were repaired before they left Keystone.

When performing warranty or recall service, please make certain that appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used.  

The remedy is to support the auxiliary fuel tank support straps and remove the eight (per tank) grade 2 bolts, if equipped, and replace them with grade 5 bolts (torque to 23 ft/lbs). Nuts and washers can be reused.

REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1

Locate the trailer on a level, flat, hard surface. Chock the wheels.

Step 2

Locate the auxiliary fuel tank(s) in the rear of the unit, Figure 1, inspect the bolt heads. Grade 2 bolts have no hash marks on the head, grade 5 bolts have 3 hash marks on the head. Replace all grade 2 bolts (torque to 23 ft/lbs). If grade 5 bolts are found to be installed proceed to warranty reimbursement, no further repairs needed. Figure 2

Step 3

Using a floor jack properly support the tank and replace one bolt at a time.

Step 4

Proceed to warranty reimbursement.

Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model 2021 Fuzion and Impact Fifth Wheels. As a result, Keystone RV is conducting a safety recall. We apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause you; however your safety and continued satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.

Reason for this recall

It has been decided that the vehicles in the recall population may have an auxiliary fuel supply tank that may have been manufactured with improper grade 2 bolts rather than proper grade 5 bolts for the tank mounting straps. Under certain conditions during travel, the grade 2 bolts may break at the mounting point allowing the auxiliary fuel supply tank to become detached from the frame of the unit leading to an increased risk of vehicle crash and/or fire.

What we will do

Keystone representatives have been in contact with the staff at your selling dealership regarding this situation. The remedy is to inspect the tank strap mounting bolts and replace if found to be a grade 2 bolt with a grade 5 bolt. The service and parts required for this corrective action will be provided at no charge to you.

What we need you to do

Do not fill the tanks to capacity with fuel. Transport the unit to the nearest authorized dealer with empty tanks for repairs to be completed. As soon as possible, please make an appointment to have your RV serviced by your dealership. The labor time to perform this correction is approximately 1 hour. Please ask your dealer if you wish to know how much additional time will be needed to schedule and process your RV for this repair.

Please contact Keystone Customer service if your dealer is unable to assist or if you take your RV to your dealer on the agreed service date, and the dealer does not remedy the condition within a reasonable amount of time, or without charge to you.
