Supply Line To Refrigerator Compartment may Melt

Summary
Grand Design RV, LLC (Grand Design) is recalling certain 2017-2021 Solitude recreational trailers. The liquid propane (LP) supply line that runs through the exterior lower refrigerator compartment may contact the burner tube of the refrigerator, possibly damaging the line and causing an LP gas leak.
Remedy
Grand Design will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the LP supply line for damage, replacing it as necessary. All lines in the vicinity of the burner tube will be wrapped in a thermal foil heat barrier material, then secured away from the burner tube of the refrigerator with additional P-clamps, free of charge. The recall began September 17, 2020. Owners may contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-9679. Grand Design’s number for this recall is 910021.

Repair Instructions
Step 1:
Remove the lower exterior vent cover of the refer compartment. This is done by turning the two locking tabs 90 degrees, when the groove in the tab is vertical it is unlocked (vent covers may vary by model and year of the unit)
Step 2:
Inspect the compartment to see if the rubber LP line is in contact with the burner box of the refrigerator cooling unit. If damage to the LP line is identified, it must be replaced. Contact Grand Design Dealer Support Team for more information.
When securing the LP line, you can move it above or below then burner box when space allows you to do so, as burner boxes are high off the floor in some models.
Step 3:
Add insulating thermal-foil to LP line.
A. Use a section of insulating thermal-foil (approximately 6” x 8”). Wrap the foil lengthwise around the rubber LP line. (Photo 1)
B. Use a small piece of foil duct tape to secure the insulating foil to the hose and prevent it from unraveling while it is slid into place. (Photo 2)
C. Center the section of hose closest to the burner box/chimney (Photo 3) to protect the LP hose from contact and heat emanating from the burner box and chimney of the cooling unit.
Step 4:
A. Use a ½” P-clip and a self-tapping screw to secure the LP line to the sidewall in the lower vent opening.
(Photo 1) In some instances, this may require the removal of the lower refrigerator vent frame.
B. When securing the LP line to the wall, ensure the LP line is ABOVE or BELOW the burner box if possible.
The LP line MUST be clear of the burner box of the refrigerator cooling unit. (Photo 2) You can add the second P-clip to hold the LP line down the decking or the support.
Step 5: Reinstall the exterior vent. Repair is complete.
