NHTSA Recall #20V-625
#20V-625
The Toro Company
Carl Osterhaus
Senior Manager, Technical
Product Support
Dear Toro Log Splitter Owner
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
The Toro Company, manufacturer of the Toro LS922 Log Splitter, has decided that a defect relating to the Log splitter
safety exists in certain Model Year 2017 through 2020 Toro Log Splitters. Our records indicate that your Log Splitter is
included in the affected population of units.
What is the CONCERN? Toro determined that certain Toro LS922 Log Splitters (22618 & 22618HD) were
manufactured with a tow pole mounting joint that has a possibility of failing. As a
result, the tow pole may fail at the connection to the main frame. A failed tow
pole connection could lead to an increased risk of the unit separating from the
towing vehicle, or tipping over. If the tow pole bolts break, the log splitter could
tip over or detach, increasing the risk of a crash.
What will TORO DO? Toro has developed a tow pole reinforcement kit. The update kit can be ordered
through Toro parts. Parts and labor to update the units will be reimbursed by a
warranty claim once the rework has been completed. We are dedicated to always
delivering the best customer experience, and respect for your time is a top priority.
Once the ordered update hit has been received, the repair takes about 2 hours to
complete. (See attached Service Bulletin SWS# 129)
NOTE: This recall supersedes the recall announced in December 2019, Service
Bulletin SWS #126. If that recall has already been completed, this recall now needs
to be done. If the recall announced in Service Bulletin SWS # 126 has not been
completed, disregard that bulletin, and complete this recall now.
Information for Owners In the event that you are no longer the current owner, or have had a change of address,
please complete the reverse side and return the updated information in the enclosed
envelope.
If Toro for any reason is unable to remedy the situation without charge, or within a reasonable amount of time,
pursuant to law 49 U.S.C. Chapter 301, you may submit a complaint to the Administrator, National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration, 1200 New Jersey Avenue, S.E., Washington, D.C. 20590 or call the toll‐free Auto Safety Hotline at
1‐888‐327‐4236 (TTY 1‐800‐424‐9153); or go to https://www.safercar.gov.
