Summary
E-One Incorporated (E-One) is recalling certain 2020 Cyclone 2, Typhoon, and Typhoon N vehicles. The steering gear mounting bolts may become loose and back out, resulting in difficulty steering.
Remedy
KME will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the wiring and connections, and replace any incorrect hardware, free of charge. The recall began on April 9, 2021. Owners may contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3928.

Subject: Some IFS-FT units may have steering gears that the fasteners may loosen and lose clamp load between the cradle and steering gear.
Applies To: IFS for Fire Truck
VDM Range: 11/27/2019 thru 10/28/2020, excluding units contained at OEM.
Verify with OEM on specific affected units and applicable serial numbers.
Vocation: Fire Truck ER
Labor Allowance: 1.5 Hours for removal, cleaning, application of Nord-Lock washers and reinstallation at specified torque.
Please Read the Entire Bulletin and Reference Manuals D710023 before Proceeding with Any Work. Follow industry standards regarding safety equipment and procedures. Refer any questions to Reyco Granning Field Service/Warranty department via 417-466-1044. (Mark Bachman)
This procedure should be done at latest on the Next Scheduled Service Interval.
Perform the below instructions one fastener on each gear at a time for each of the 14 bolts, using an alternating pattern.
Access to all of the bolts can be achieved by steering the suspension to limiting stops.
Steering gear and steering gear clamp area to be cleaned with brake cleaner or similar solvent to remove oils, greases, and contaminants.
Female holes on steering gear to be cleaned with wire bottle brush or similar to remove contaminants such as, but not limited to, thread locker and oil.
While performing the TSB, inspect steering gear (threads and body), fittings and lines connected to the gear, and pitman arm for damage or leaks and replace or service as necessary.
Ensure proper steering fluid level before returning vehicle to service.
- Remove the single 7/8 in bolt from each steering gear; clean the threads inside the steering gear blind hole.
- Discard the fastener and flat washer and install the Nord-Lock washer on the new fastener.
- Install and torque to 500 lb ft.
- Remove the 10 ¾ in fasteners from each steering gear one at a time and clean the threads and mating holes. See images on following pages.

- Discard the fasteners that directly thread into the steering gear and replace with new fasteners (6 fasteners directly around the output shaft of the gear)
- Discard the flat washer and install the appropriate Nord-Lock washer on the fastener (new fastener if applicable).
- Install the ¾ in fastener (new fastener if applicable) with Nord-Lock washer and torque to 300 lb ft.
- Repeat with the opposite steering gear.
- This procedure applies to both the master and slave gears.
- Labor Allowance: 5 hr. max recommended. Invoice Charge capped at $195.00
For warranty coverage please supply the following info with warranty claim and submit to Reyco Granning.

E-ONE has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain models of the following emergency vehicles manufactured January 2020 to February 2021, equipped with Reyco Granning Independent Front Suspension Steering Gear Mount Bolts:

WHY IS A RECALL BEING CONDUCTED?
Reyco Granning has learned that Independent Front Suspension (IFS) modules manufactured during the affected timeframe could have Steering Gear Mounting bolts that may become loose. As these fasteners loosen, the performance of the steering system will degrade as the steering gear box is no longer clamped firmly to its mounting plate.
On certain IFS modules manufactured by Reyco Granning during the affected timeframe could have Steering Gear Mounting bolts that may become loose. As these fasteners loosen, the performance of the steering system will degrade as the steering gear box is no longer clamped firmly to its mounting plate. This results in vagueness of steering, vehicle wandering, and potentially limited steering motion as the bolts continue to back out and may come into contact with other portions of the steering mechanism such as the pitman arm. This condition could result in a vehicle crash. Vagueness of steering, vehicle wandering may occur. There was no cause provided.
The affected item is the Reyco Granning Independent Front Suspension Steering Gear Mount Bolts.

Reyco Granning will perform the inspection and repair effort as set forth in their Service Bulletin and is ready to begin that support immediately. It will take approximately 1.5 manhours to repair.

SAFETY RECALL NOTICE: 21V-099
TO: All E-ONE Dealers
E-ONE has decided that a safety defect exists in certain E-ONE 2020 Typhoon vehicles manufactured from January 2020 through February 2021 equipped with Reyco Granning Independent Front Suspension Steering Gear Mount Bolts. Accordingly, a recall to address this issue is being initiated effective February 19, 2021.
Reyco Granning has learned that Independent Front Suspension (IFS) modules manufactured during the affected timeframe could have Steering Gear Mounting bolts that may become loose. As these fasteners loosen, the performance of the steering system will degrade as the steering gear box is no longer clamped firmly to its mounting plate. As these fasteners loosen, the performance of the steering system will degrade as the steering gear box is no longer clamped firmly to its mounting plate. This condition could result in a vehicle crash.
Owners will be notified by mail about the recall and will be instructed on what to do. Reyco Granning will perform the inspection and repair effort as set forth in their Service Bulletin and is ready to begin that support immediately. To schedule the repair, contact Adam Kuiken at Reyco Granning at 417-466-1015. It will take approximately 1.5 manhours to repair. There is no cost to owners for this recall.
E-ONE is providing, free of charge, the necessary components and instructions to rectify the issue and will pay labor costs for inspecting and replacing the included components that have not already been replaced during normal maintenance.
Please be reminded that it is a violation of Federal law for you to sell, lease or deliver a new or used 2020 Typhoon equipped with Reyco Granning Independent Front Suspension Steering Gear Mount Bolts covered by this notification until this recall has been performed on these 2020 Typhoon. Substantial civil penalties apply to violations of this law.
