Summary
Black Series Campers Inc. (Black Series) is recalling certain 2020-2021 C12, C13, C15, HQ12, HQ15, HQ17, HQ19, HQ19T, HQ21, and HQ22T trailers equipped with Curt emergency breakaway kits, part numbers 52041 and 52044. When the breakaway system pin is pulled and not replaced, the system battery may become depleted and draw electricity through the main battery. This can overload the electrical system.
Remedy
Black Series will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected components, free of charge. The recall began on March 29, 2021. Owners may contact Black Series customer service at 1-833-822-6737.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Black Series Camper Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to your trailer safety exists in certain 2019 – 2020 model year . Black Series Camper Inc. recently discovered that certain CURT Emergency Breakaway Kits have had malfunctions when the emergency breakaway pin/clip is pulled and is not replaced, the small battery (CURT) continuously drains until it is depleted. As a result, BSC is conducting a safety recall. We apologize for this inconvenience. However, we are concerned about your safety and continued satisfaction with our products.
IMPORTANT
- Your trailer is involved in Black Series Camper recall 21V-116.
- Schedule an appointment with your RV dealer or authorized service center.
- This service will be performed for you by an authorized technician or service center.
- The recall will be completed free of charge to the customer.
In cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) we recommend that you check your vehicle identification number and check with Black Series Camper Inc. (833) 8226737 or at NHTSA’s website (https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/), where you can find out the most up-to-date recall information for your trailer.
Why is your trailer being recalled?
When the small breakaway battery (CURT) is depleted, the emergency brake system draws through the charger from the main battery. The total assumed draw is around 10amps – 12amps. The charger is rated around 5amps. This causes an overload which could lead to a fire.
What will we do?
Black Series Camper Inc. will supply the updated components. BSC will pay/reimburse an authorized technician or service center for the labor of the replacement. BSC will reimburse the value of the part and the labor of the authorized technician or service center if the component has been replaced.
What should you do?
You should contact your Black Series Camper dealer to arrange a service appointment as soon as possible.
In the event that you have had the repairs completed prior to this recall, you would need to forward a copy of the receipt and/or invoice of the repairs done to [email protected] or mail the copies to Black Series Camper Inc 19501 E. Walnut Drive South, City of Industry, CA 91748 for reimbursement. Black Series Camper Inc will issue a company check upon confirmation of receipt and/or invoice.

REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
When the emergency breakaway system pin is pulled and not replaced the electrical circuit is closed. When the small breakaway battery (CURT) is depleted, the emergency brake system draws through the charger from the main battery. The total assumed draw is around 10amps – 12 amps. The charger is rated around 5amps. This causes an overload which could lead to a fire.
SERVICE ACTION
Black Series Camper Inc. will supply the updated components. BSC will pay/reimburse for the labor of the replacement and BSC will reimburse the value of the part and the labor if the component has been replaced. The remedy is to be provided free of charge to the customer.
REMINDER: It is a violation of Federal law for a dealer to deliver a new motor vehicle or trailer to a customer under a sale or lease until the defect or noncompliance is remedied.
