Summary
Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2021 Coachmen Viking and Clipper Travel Trailers. The cooktop may not be isolated properly from the furnace return air, which can cause the flame to become inverted.
Remedy
Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install a panel and seal it, free of charge. The recall began March 31, 2021. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-269-467-4600. Forest River’s number for this recall is 121-1305.

Concern:
The manufacturing plant did not install nor seal the panel, which isolates the furnace from the cooktop.
Disconnect the vehicles’ battery Positive and Negative, disconnect any House battery(s) Positive and Negative, if equipped with a generator ensure it is off and lastly, ensure the vehicle is disconnected from shore power. Block any tires/wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Failure to do so may result in electrocution, fire or other personal injury, property damage and/or death.
STEP 1: REMOVE COOKTOP FROM THE KITCHEN COUNTER; (FIGURE 1)
STEP 2: MEASURE THE FULL WIDTH AND DEPTH OF THE OPENING ABOVE THE DRAWER; (FIGURE 2)
- CUT A SINGLE PANEL THE SIZE THAT FITS THE OPENING (FIGURE 2)
- CUT THE PANEL IN HALF SO IT MAY BE INSTALLED EASIER (FIGURE 3)
- INSTALL CLETES TO PANELS “FRONT AND REAR” TO SCREW TO THE WALL (FIGURE 3)
- NOTCH ONE PANEL FOR THE LPG HOSE AND NOTCH FOR CABINET CLETES (FIGURE 3)
STEP 3: ONCE INSTALLED, USE SEAM TAPE OR DUCT TAPE TO COVER THE PANEL SEAM; (FIGURE 4)
STEP 4: USE SILICONE SEALANT TO SEAL THE PANELS AROUND THE PARAMETER OF THE PANELS AND
AGAINST THE SINK CABINET. ENSURE TO SEAL AROUND ANY CLETES AND WHERE THE LPG HOSE IS;
STEP 5: RE-INSTALL COOPTOP;
STEP 6: TEST;
- TURN ON LPG
- SET FURNACE TO HIGHEST SETTING
- IGNITE COOKTOP AND LET BURN
- THE FLAME SHOULD NOT INVERT WHEN THE FURNACE IS RUNNING.

Forest River – Office of Corporate Compliance (“OCC”) has decided that a defect, which relates to the motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2021 Coachmen Viking and Clipper travel trailer recreational vehicles. This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person.
WHAT IS THE DEFECT/NONCOMPLIANCE?
The cooktop is not isolated from the furnace return air, which potentially causes an inverted flame on the cooktop.
EVALUATION OF THE RISK TO THE VEHICLE AND OPERATOR(S) RELATED TO THE RECALL.
If the cooktop is not isolated from the furnace, the furnace may draw negative air pressure, resulting in an inverted cooktop flame, which may lead to potentially causing the propane supply line to fail, increasing the risk of a fire, potentially causing property damage or personal injury.
WHAT IS FOREST RIVER AND OUR DEALERSHIPS GOING TO DO?
Forest River is notifying dealerships of the recall. You may have the recall corrected at any Forest River dealership. However, it is preferable if you have your selling dealership perform the remedy. Forest River completely covers your cost for the remedy; you will not receive any bill of sale for anything covered under the above recall number.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Please contact your dealer immediately and request a service appointment to schedule the free remedy to have the panel added to isolate the cooktop from the furnace return air. The vehicle Owner is responsible for arranging to have the work completed. Please state you have been notified by Forest River of having a recall in process for your vehicle and provide the recall number for the dealership. It is also helpful to the dealership to have a copy of this letter when you take your vehicle in for the recall remedy.

HOW LONG WILL THE REMEDY PROCESS TAKE?
The estimated time of repair is 1.0 hours. However, the dealership may need to keep your vehicle or schedule an appointment with you for a later date to fit into their regular service schedule.
