Summary
Stargate Manufacturing Ltd (Stargate) is recalling certain 2018-2019 DUMP trailers equipped with the Smart-Steer 2.0 self-steering axle with a bolt-on steer arm at 8-7/8″ tie-rod location. Under heavy loading, the bolts attaching the steer arm to the knuckle can shear.
Remedy
Stargate will notify owners, and dealers will weld the steering arm and/or replace the defective bolts, free of charge. The recall began on June 4, 2021. Owners may contact Stargate customer service at 1-905-636-6888, extension 30. Stargate’s number for this recall is SB009R.

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. This is to inform you that. Stargate Manufacturing Ltd. is recalling certain 2018-2019 DUMP trailers equipped with Smart-Steer 2.0 self-steering axle with a bolt-on steer arm at 8-7/8’’ tie-rod location. Dexter Axle Company has issued a safety recall on the Smart-Steer 2.0 Self-Steer Axle. The affected axles are models of the Smart-Steer 2.0 selfsteering axle with a bolt-on steer arm at 8-7/8” tie-rod location, built from May 5, 2017 to Dec 4, 2019. Dexter Canada has determined that under certain heavy loading conditions the bolts attaching the steer arm to the knuckle can potentially shear. If this condition occurs, the steer arm will detach from the knuckle on the affected side and potentially drag along the ground. In some cases the sheared section of the steer arm bolt will dislodge from the steer arm and fall to the ground. The steer arm can detach from the knuckle and drag, increasing risk of crash.
Dexter Axle Company supplies axles to Stargate Manufacturing Ltd. for installation on new trailers. Stargate was contacted by Dexter Axle Company with notice of the recall. According to the regulations of NHTSA, Stargate Manufacturing has to send a notice to any affected customers.
The dealer you purchased the trailer from may have already alerted you to this issue. If you have already been notified of this issue, and fixed it, then no further action is required. Dealers will weld the steering arm and/or replace the defective bolts, free of charge. This warranty repair should take 3 hours at shop rate.
IMPORTANT: If the vehicle’s current owner has leased the vehicle, the owner shall send to the lessee a copy of the notice and any subsequent notice within 10 working days after the day on which the notice is received.
