Axle Hanger Brackets May Fail

A bracket failure could affect vehicle stability, increasing the risk of a crash.

Summary

LGS Industries, Inc. (LSG) is recalling certain 2021 LOOK, Pace, and Cargo Express trailers. The aluminum axle hanger bracket that attaches the axle to the frame may separate and allow the axle to shift.

 

Remedy

Dealers will weld a gusset onto both ends of the bracket, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 25, 2021. Owners may contact LGS customer service at 1-877-475-5665.

Dear Sir or Ma’am,

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

LGS Industries, Inc., manufacturer of LOOK Trailers, Pace American and Cargo Express trailers, has decided that a defect which relates to motor safety exists in certain 2021LOOK, Pace American, Cargo Express and Everlite trailers equipped with Lippert Components 3500 lb capacity aluminum torsion axle hanger brackets.

 

! Important !

• The Lippert Components 3500 lb capacity aluminum torsion axle hanger brackets installed on your above-listed trailer are being recalled.
• You should contact your nearest LOOK Trailers, Pace American, Cargo Express or Everlite trailer dealer to schedule an appointment to have your trailer’s axle hanger brackets inspected and repaired if the non-conformity exists.

 

Why is a recall being conducted?

On aluminum trailers that are GVWR rated 7,000 lbs. or 2,990 lbs manufactured with torsion axles from Lippert Components model year 2021 a manufacturing non-conformity may be present in the 3500 lb capacity aluminum torsion axle hanger brackets.  The nonconformity is an undersized Lippert Components 3500 lb capacity aluminum torsion axle hanger bracket.  If the axle hanger bracket contains the non-conformity, the possibility exists that the 3500 lb. capacity aluminum torsion axle hanger bracket could break at the bend, increasing the risk of a crash.   You might possibly feel a jolt and sway if the bracket fails and the two parts separate.What are we doing about the problem? Inspecting every aluminum trailer model year 2021 that was manufactured with 3500 lb capacity torsion axles.  If the inspected trailer is determined to contain the non-conformity it will be repaired according to Lippert Components specifications by welding gussets to the affected brackets.

 

What should you do?

Please contact your local LOOK Trailers, Pace American, Cargo Express or Everlite trailer dealer to schedule an appointment to have your trailer’s axle hanger brackets inspected and repaired if the non- conformity exists on your trailer.  The total time to repair each axle hanger bracket is one hour.

 

What if you no longer own this trailer? If you no longer own the trailer, please contact the warranty department with the name of the individual to whom you sold the trailer.

If you are the lessor of this trailer, please forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within ten days to comply with federal regulations.  If you have already paid to have your Lippert Components 3500 lb capacity aluminum torsion axle hanger brackets replaced for this condition, you may be eligible for reimbursement of the charges you paid for the repair.
